Unetbootin for Mac? (makes a USB bootable)

Hi

Is there something similar to Unetbootin for Macs? Unetbootin allows one to download, say a version of Linux, and then make it bootable on a USB stick. There's a Windows and Linux version, but I wonder if there's a compatible app made for Mac? Thanks

Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Everytime the same thing with MacWorld and Linux! Can't understand why mac-users are so "closed" in their mind: Mac, just Mac, only Mac!
I use all existing operating systems from a lot of years, I like mac-os more than others, but I've a real satisfaction from Linux too, it exists, why do not accept this reality?
I've the same problem and I'm using Unebootin from a Bootcamp-Windows installation: it works, but is not the real solution.
Is it very far the day in wich a mac-user will open his mind to the opensource and integration? Maybe yes 😟

Anyway...try to post similar question on Microsoft help forums, asking something about linux 🙂 If you like flames, this kind of forums are the best place 🙂

I agree. I have linux in my mini-laptop, OSX in iMac and a worn-out Win in my PC which waits for restoring photo files in the other room...

... stil I prefer having less computers, if possible. I run Unetbootin in iMac with Wine, and I was positively surprised when it worked.

First I have to say that I can't believe the amount of other OS hating. OMSC4 had a simple request and all the Mac-elite could do is bash him, which is very uncool and a very quick way to turn away new users. Anyway, to answer the original question w/o bashing (since that is why we post questions):

The easiest way that I have found is to run unetbootin under wine like bigo72, Franssales, and WDZaphod suggested.

No one bashed him. Kappy tried to tell him it wasn't possible, that no such Mac app exists, but he didn't want to listen.

Kappy took his valuable time to let him know what the problem was (no one gets paid for this) and all the Linux people jumped all over him for it then complained that he tried to give the answer because it was one they didn't like.

Linux people are just plain weird, and the rude ones here.

Trust me, if you can't answer the question and simply respond by stating "Support here is only for OS X and other Apple products" or "Go somewhere else. The answer isn't here." then there is a problem. While it may not be bashing as you see it, I think it is. However, the question was answered and now there is no longer a need to continue this conversation.

There is no app for the mac, the only way to run uNetBootin on a mac is to either compile from source or run it under wine.

On a side note, Linux people are not weird or rude, we just don't live in a closed off world where there is only one answer for things.

Kappy, he looking for a MAC APPLICATION NOT A LINUX APPLICATION.

He needs an application that creates a start up disc from ANY iso file or livecd. I'm not sure why on Earth this is NOT a Mac question. He needs a Mac application, so a Mac developer would have had to create this, not a linux. I'm looking for a mac application as well because I am trying to install it on my HP mini 1000, but I wanted a Mac app to do it.

There are apps out there, but I can't find any that work directly with only a single ISO file. Does anyone know of a app that creates a Ubuntu boot USB from just an ISO?

I also thought the moderator was not even reading the question.

I am also looking for an application like this _for my mac with OSX_.

I've tried to make the same thing as i did when I put my Leopard DVD onto a USB disc but this method only applies on a Mac.

If I want to put a .iso on a USB drive I'm kind of stuck. I also tried mounting the .iso and used rsync to copy all the files but that was no sucess either.

I'm going to continue messing around until I get it to work and then I will post a solution bcus it HAS to be possible since OSX is unix and I should be able to compile an app or two.

See you soon again!

Hi again!

There is no solution! 🙂

Ubuntu have a tool thats correct. But the problem persists. What if you dont have a burner on your mac? Then you would like to get that LiveCD onto a USB stick. Momentum 22.

Developers out there! Listen to our needs and please make unetbootin app for OSX.
That would be sweet! And while you are at it you could add support to make a XP cd to USB stick as well... 🙂

People were extremely rude about it, and it's not clear to me that, as helpful as he is at times, that Kappy has an encyclopedic knowledge of every single Mac app that exists. If he does, a lot of us would find it valuable.
