My mouse is jumping around the screen at random intervals There doesn't seem to be any specific action that causes it. Does anyone know where and what to look at to stop this? It happens about all the time. I have the system preference Expose setup, so when it happens all it either moves all the windows off the desktop or shows them all. Expose is not the problem. It's just the thing that instantly lets me know that the mouse has jumped to one of the corners again. Sometime it happens repeatedly.

Turn off your wireless router and turn off Airport, see if the problem goes away.
Not a viable long-term solution, but it worked for me. If it does work, the next step is to configure your router to turn off b/g compatibility. That's done the trick for some people.
Another possibility is that there's a second Bluetooth device within range of the Mac's antenna. This can cause problems even if you use a USB mouse, if Bluetooth is turned on.
Its definitely NOT the Might Mouse. I have a Kensington Trackball and the same "jumping cursor" issue occurs. It is most likely, most definitely a problem with the OS or the drivers that control the mouse and I hope a fix for this occurs in the future.
I'll add my name to the list with this exact same problem. Cursor on screen suddenly shoots to the side of the screen and usually down to the lower right corner. No apparent reason. Very frustrating.
My system is a brand new (this week) Mac Pro. Came with 10.5.5 installed and was immediately updated to 10.5.6. Problem still persists with the updated OS.
I've tried shutting the Bluetooth off (a lousy workaround to have to disable a basic feature of the system) and will watch to see if that stops the problem. Seems to be working so far.
Jumping Mouse - I'm having the same problem. It started just after I did my last Apple software update a month ago. It's driving me NUTS !!!! I'm using a PowerPC G4 w\ dual 867 MHz drives \ I MB L3 cache per processor \ 256 MB DDR SDRAM. It's the unit w\ the mirrored drive door on the front of the cpu. The ****** mouse cursor jumps all overv the place at random intervals - even if I happen to have the mouse button depressed. Please help !!
I've also discovered that my DVD drive door no longer works when I press the eject key on the keyboard however, if I have a disk in the drive (I can get a disk in by using the paper clip manual technique) the eject button on the dvd software console WILL eject the disk. If someone has a fix for this PLEASE let me know. \ quinnbj@charter.net
after finally going with this issue to the mac store i got a new mighty mouse and no problem anymore...i also upgraded to 10.5.6, so one of those might be a sollution maybe...
Happening to me too - I've got a wired Mighty Mouse, and ever since 10.5.5 the mouse pointer jumps around exactly as you describe.
The good news is I found a workaround until Apple addresses the issue. This works for
the jumping around mouse, not the mouse freeze.
When mine gets nervous, I open the System Preference/Keyboard & Mouse and click on Mouse
and just click on or move the Scrolling slider a bit and this seems to stabilize the corded Mighty Mouse. I sometime leave the Keyboard & Mouse thing open on the desktop.
Let us know if this helps! It is not a fix but workaround that I have been using until
Apple addresses the issue.
I recently started using a Logitech MX Revolution mouse and started noticing jumping right away. My jumping occurs when scrolling (for example scrolling a large document in Word) when it suddenly jumps to the beginning of the page and back again. Also, when selecting menu item, it sometimes jumps to the Apple menu (sort of like 'top of the page' I guess). Resizing windows: it would suddenly become a teeny tiny window and back again. Prompted by the previous post, I switched off bluetooth and the problem went away. Bluetooth must interfere with Logitech bluetooth-like USB stick.
By any chance do you have a Wacom tablet or similar?
I've seem jumpy mice on both Windows and Macs when a tablet is attached and the puck (and/or) stylus is resting on the tablet; the mouse will occasionally jump around the screen, windows scroll for no reason, etc.
Remove the puck/stylus off the tablet, problem goes away.
Occasionally have to disconnect and reconnect the tablet as well.
One must have a "membership" to file a bug report. $195 to start with.
My G5 updated to 10.5.6 and worked fine for a while, but I've had trouble with a jumping mouse for months! IOW, not just with this update. I know there is nothing wrong with the mouse or keyboard because I switched both from my G4 -- problem continues.
I did the PRAM thing and that works for a while, then problem begins all over again. I also have the new leopard Applejack program and have used that Excellent Program to fix Any Problem with my Macs. Lots of stuff I don't understand came up on screen, but HD is ok. Repairing permissions shows a lot of stuff as well -- I can't read it with understanding -- but when I ran ÅJ in "manual" mode, my keyboard was unresponsive. Running AJ on auto, worked fine and the machine booted nicely. But, I'm sure it will act up again.
I've also had problems with the keyboard and mouse becoming unresponsive when G5 goes to 'sleep' or waking from 'sleep.' When I changed the 'energy saver' to "never" sleep, my G5 would not shut down, but goes into sleep mode. Trying to do a hard shut down using the power button requires a one minute plus to shut down.
Look, guys, I am a die hard Mac fan and 11 year user. I've owned 5 Macs and never had the problems I experienced since installing Leopard. I don't complain without cause. I am convinced this is a Leopard software problem. Leopard has been buggy from the day it launched. My son continues to use 10.4 and has None of the Problems I've had with Leopard 5. You've had over a year to debug Leopard. Time to get busy or you'll be open to being compared to Vista.
That last observation will probably get this post deleted. Apple Pride on Parade. But, deleting this post won't fix the problem or calm tempers about it until you admit you've got a problem.
Does anyone notice if it is related to upgrading with 3rd party RAM vs factory RAM? I intalled 4 x 4GB of OWC RAM and this problem began for me. Had not had the issue for the past year that i have had this computer.
To summarise: - it seems certain it is not a hardware issue - neither I am afraid is it limited to Leopard !
We have five Macs some running Tiger and some Leopard but only one has the problem - this iMac 1.8GHz G5. running 10.4.11 on original memory !!
What I find so surprising is that there is no response or recognition of the problem from Apple.
