Jumping mouse... OS 10.5.5

My mouse is jumping around the screen at random intervals There doesn't seem to be any specific action that causes it. Does anyone know where and what to look at to stop this? It happens about all the time. I have the system preference Expose setup, so when it happens all it either moves all the windows off the desktop or shows them all. Expose is not the problem. It's just the thing that instantly lets me know that the mouse has jumped to one of the corners again. Sometime it happens repeatedly.

Add my name to the list of folks having a problem with my mouse jumping. I came here looking for answers and found this thread.

It's been doing it pretty much since I bought the machine in December 2007. (As far as I can remember it's always been happening, just maybe worse lately.)

My machine:
24" iMac
Mac OS X 10.5.6
2.4 Core Duo
2 Gig memory
The mouse is the Apple supplied wired one hooked via the keyboard USB plug
Bluetooth is turned off

It is very frustrating as it jumps mid click and will do things like grab an item in my dock and move it. I have a hard time gaming and on occasion I have to actually keep fighting it to hold it in place long enough to click on something. It's intermittent however and doesn't happen all the time. I've gotten so used to fighting it, I can't honestly say exactly how much of the time it happens

I considered buying a new mouse, but I'm not seeing from the information here that will necessarily fix the issue.

Any thoughts?
