MacBook Air no audio output device found ???????? please help

Dear all,

since yesterday my Mac Book Air can not find audio output device anymore, so no sound.

Its actually strange because i was running the Hardware Test (Boot + D and so on) but it does not show any failure or problem.

Could you please help me? Anybody has any idea?

Well the previous fix lasted all of 2 hours. Now I have the sound working again by resetting the PRAM. Here's how;

Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

We'll see how long this fix lasts...

The 2011 MBA is also affected by this error. Either the I/O-Board cable is loose or the I/O-Board itself is damaged. There is a picutre of the I/O-Board on ifixit.com.

Thanks for that. Travelling in western China atm, but the people at my next guest house assure me that they know of an Apple service centre near their establishment. Here's hoping!

I discovered a cure. Put your mba in a box, powered off, for a 12 hour trip on a bumpy southern Chinese road. After that my sound problem was cured. 2 weeks later, still ok. Let sleeping dogs lie.

I tried everything described above and can't get my "No output devices found" to go away. Got to be a hardware problem.

My Mac Air is out of contract. What is the cost for a new logic board?

I decided to bring it to the genuis bar. They are trying two things. One, see if it is the I/O board (~70), if not, they will send to the repair center for a flat rate fix rate (~280)

same thing happened to me. i just plugged and unplugged my headphones for like a couple of times and it got fixed. 🙂

Joe Holt solution solved my audio problem😎. Probably when I installed a new battery I moved the audio cable connectors.

This fixed my problem too! Thank you. I just went to System Preferences > Sound, clicked "output," and selected "headphones" (while wearing my headphones.

Plug some normal headphones in and out again, repeat until you see the 'Internal Speakers' entry showing up again in 'System Preferences / Output'

There is no other fix available.

Re-routing the audio cable fix held for about 3 days, but sadly, my MBA is out of sound once again.

It didnt actually cost anything because of EU law. Ive had the macbook less than 2 years and theres no visiable faults/Scratches to the machine so they had to repair it for free.
