Serran Wrap a good idea?

I just got a 4gb nano today and it scratches like crazy. I ordered a case and it will take about 3 weeks to get it. In the meantime I am using cerran wrap (sticky wrap) to cover my ipod nano from scratching
... is this a good idea or not?

I've seen it mentioned not only on the Apple site, but on other computer sites that do reviews. After doing a quick battery search, here's the one I first came up with on the Apple site:

http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html

On the bottom right side of the page:

Let It Breathe
Charging your iPod, iPod nano or iPod shuffle while in certain carrying cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity. If you notice your iPod gets hot when you charge it, take it out of its case first.

Of course, the catch phrase in this particular blip is "certain carrying cases", but hey; I want to do everything possible to keep this battery as long as possible! Besides, longer battery life = more $$ to spend at iTunes! LOL

HI!

In Italy the Saran wrap is called DOMOPACK! I had the idea to use it just from the first day i had my black nano...and i think it's the perfect solution against scratches...it's termic adherent so i have no problem using the wheel or viewing the screen, and it covers ALL parts of the iPod, nt only plain surfaces...

Unique problem...it has to be replaced every 10 days...for me

cheers!

I just received my Agent 18 case today and am pleased with it.

However, prior to receiving it, I temporarily protected the Nano by using a clear plastic badge holder. You know, the kind you get at conventions where your name is on paper inserted into the badge. The width of the badge was perfect for the length of the Nano and I simply folded it over. I had zero scratches. Of course, I also left the plastic that came with the Nano on it for now.

I've been using saran wrap on my ipod since i've gotten it like 1 1/2 months ago. It works great. There are only a few scratches on it( from the couple of days i used it before i started using the saran wrap) and none of them are really visible unless you search for them. And yes, I leave the wrap on when i charge my iPod. Downside is you have to replace it every week or so. Looks decent enough if you take your time putting it on.

Of course is on the iPod during charging...also in the dock. If you put it well you can broke it perfectly (the wrap...) the first time you try to insert earphones and cable (or dock). In this way you can completly cover the Nano, and the only open parts "on the air" are the connectors...

In my experience when you remove the wrap, to change it, you can clean the iPod with a clean cloth like the one used for glasses and sunglasses...without problem for the iPod!

cheers...

My first thought when I read "sticky saran wrap" was the "Press n Seal". DO NOT USE THAT! It is the best for other things, but yes, it will leave a residue behind (learned that last Christmas when my mom tried to trick me on a gift of 2 CDs bound together - and I wanted to exchange one of them!)

As for leaving it on while charging - sure, you can do that, but "battery care" strongly suggests removing pods from protective cases during charging to prevent excess heating on the unit. Since saran wrap breathes less than a 'normal' protective case, I would strongly urge you to remove the wrap for charging. A pain to do that? Yah; but cheaper than having to replace your battery prematurely.
