ITunes 8 wont import WAV. and AIFF. files from DESKTOP to 320kbps ACC

Ive come to notice that with ITunes 8 aside from relocating the import options from the "Advanced" settings to the "General". I can no longer choose my kbps of the desired format I want when importing/converting from the DESKTOP. Yes. You can choose your format. But you cant choose your kbps.

I generally import/convert WAV. and AIFF. files from my DESKTOP to 320kbps ACC files. I no longer have that option.
You get the option of choosing kbps on when importing from CD.

Am I doing something wrong?

No longer? This was never an option.

Where did you select this previously?
If the file is one iTunes already can use (WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC or Apple Lossless), it will simply add it to iTunes. It never asked what you wanted to convert it to.

However, it can be done without having to add and and then convert.
Go to iTunes prefs -> General and click th eImport setting button.
Set the format /bitrate you want the imported files to be.
Now hold the Option key and go to menu Advanced -> Convert selection to...
This will call up a windows to select folder/file. Select what you want, then OK.
This will import and convert the files the format you have set in iTunes prefs - Importing.

Well I think there is a better way. I had a bunch of wav files and I wanted to convert them into Apple lossless. With wav files sometimes they dont have album info so I used TOAST to create an audio cd but instead of burning it I saved it as a disc image. I then used Toast to mount the image and I set itunes to automatically import and I changed the settings to lossless. The benefit of doing it this way is that it will get all the CD info plus album art. Only downside is you need to do it one cd at a time but its worth it.

1)Load .wavs to Toast "make an audio Cd"
2)Save as Disc Image
3)Toast>Utilies>Mount Image and then select the image just created
4)Let Itunes import.
