Custom ringtones keeps resetting to default - ?Push Problem?

I currently use mobileme to push contacts.

Every time I set my custom ringtones, as soon as the phone pushes, they all reset to default ringtone.

Is the only way to have custom ringtones is to turn OFF mobileme push???

I have searched the forums, which suggest this issue was resolved for some posters, but not me.

I've been having this problem as well, and lately it's been able to keep custom ringtone assignments to contacts for less than a day before resetting back to "Default." I don't know if this is part of the problem, but I subscribe to .Mac (or now, MobileMe). The ringtone reset happens even if I don't sync to my MacBook Pro, so unless it is some bug in the phone, I'm wondering if over-the-air syncing with MobileMe is doing this?
I have about 40 contacts for whom I have custom ringtones. Resetting them all when this happens is a real annoyancy and just isn't the Apple quality I've become accustomed to.
I just spoke with the iPhone help line. Their suggestion is to backup the phone, restore the phone to factory settings and then sync as usual. If the problem continues, they've directed me to visit the Genius Bar at the local Apple store.

Great suggestion they gave you...
visit the Genius Bar

The problem seems to be from all of the posts that it is a MobileMe problem. Like the guys in the store are engineers! LOL

I've already wiped my iPhone 3G to a prior backup and tried the factory restore with no change. I've even video taped the whole disappearing contacts and the lack of setting sticking. Time to post it on youtube. Then I will call apple care and direct them to the video. I don't think a Genius can fix this by any means!

Found this support article. Apple has known about this since July.

MobileMe: Syncing contacts on an iPhone may remove custom ringtones for a contact
Last Modified: July 24, 2008
Article: TS1948

Symptoms
When syncing contacts with MobileMe on an iPhone, if you have assigned a specific ringtone to a contact, the ringtone for that contact may revert back to the default ringtone.

Products Affected
iPhone, iPhone 3G, MobileMe Sync, MobileMe Contacts

Resolution
The ringtone setting is not synced with the MobileMe servers, so any time your contact data on the phone is replaced with data from MobileMe, this can occur. Contact data on the phone is overwritten with data from MobileMe:

When enabling MobileMe syncing of Contacts
After restoring your iPhone from a backup where MobileMe syncing is enabled
If your contact data on MobileMe is reset with sync data from a Mac or PC via MobileMe Sync
After a sync that did not complete correctly due to a dropped network connection

Have you posted the video yet?

Sorry, no. Problem is most of the video is of my girlfriend's contact as an example. I didn't use a tripod when I shot it and Motion had one **** of a time trying to track the screen to block out the other data. I gave up after fighting with it for more than an hour. I have set up a bogus user to record, but now it is behaving again. Figures! It just knows I'm ready for it.
