Dropped calls has started again

Out of the blue, I started getting dropped calls again including ALL day today.
This is extremely frustrating! I was at my office and kept getting dropped calls with my wife. My wife then called my office land line phone and it she kept getting dropped calls from her location.
I drove all the way to her location and within three feet we both still experienced dropped calls.
Before left the office to go see my wife I rebooted the phone thinking that would be the magical fix. Guess not!

Anyone else experiencing dropped calls? Are there any plans to for a Iphone 3g recall because the software fixes are not working.

I like the Iphone concept but it was poorly executed.

Since I got my replacement phone I have been noticing the following issues on a clean 2.1 install:

1. I have an issue with not being able to connect the call to someone properly. Either they cant hear me or i cant hear them.

2. My ringer sometimes does not work. All other system sounds work.

THIS IS FKING BS. FIX THE **** PHONE PLEASE!!! I HATE MY 3G SO FAR, I WANT MY OLD PHONE BACK ON 1.1.4.

Funny...I did not experience the dropped calls a few months ago, and now I am...even with 3G disabled and the software fixes installed. I have other "problems" with the phone as well. Love the phone concept, but it is the most unstable and therefore, unreliable phone I have ever owned. I have to keep a Blackberry with me at all times as back-up: Uggg!! Shame on Apple, and I am sure that they know it. I can cut them some slack, but not when it starts impacting my productivity. Was contemplating switching my company to an enterprise solution (from Blackberry) but now, no way!!!!!

Hi,

WE! (Users around the world, not just the USA) need a fix for iPhone issues, especially the dropped 3G signal problem. Since 2.1 update I'm getting daily disconnects and sometimes only minutes apart!!! I'm in the UK and using O2 so this is not a fault only experienced with AT&T, although I'm not suggesting that there are no problems with the AT&T service.

Also, IMHO, recommending turning off 3G to improve performance seems pretty ridiculous for a device that was upgraded and launched as a 3G cell phone.

I smile at the individuals who continue to claim that this is a user 2 user forum only, when it's probably the richest source of user experiences with the iPhone that Apple could wish for. They would be negligent if they didn't use it to keep in touch with their market.

It is not a claim, it is a fact that this is a user to user help forum only that is provided and moderated by Apple - as in no direct support from Apple employees here, nor does any Apple employee respond to questions directed at Apple here.

This doesn't mean that no Apple employees peruse these discussions, but if you believe each and every post and thread here is read by a moderator or by anyone employee, you keep smiling which will be smiling at yourself only.

It's a sad fact but irrate customers aren't always the most scientific in their testing. If you've worked in customer support like I have then you'll realise this.

Often the product gets the blame, but there is often more than one potential root cause for the problem and you have to eliminate each possibility one at a time.

Therefore if you have call problems you should eliminate the iPhone as the cause by using another 3G handset. You should also call a landline not another cell phone as it may be the other phone or a cross network connection at fault.

If you do test another handset it should be done at the same location as the iPhone to ensure you're using the same cell tower.

Hi,
Ok,
gilesuk,
my report of dropped 3G connections is not without some colaborative evidence. My wife has a Nokia N95 on O2 and she DOES NOT EXPERIENCE dropouts or signal degradation!!! The two phones sit side by side and produce totally different responses, iPhone 3G being the problem phone.

As for Apple's forum involvement, I fully appreciate that they do not take questions via this forum but the value of a forum is INTERRACTION! If Apple do not extract useful data from what people post then they are not the innovative organisation they portend to be.

For what it's worth, I rarely experience dropped calls as I find it difficult most of the time even to make one. When I'm calling anyone the phone says that it's making a call, but that's as far as it gets - I hear no ringing, in fact nothing further happens at all. I've left it a fair while in that state before, and it seems I could leave the phone indefinitely and the call would never be connected. Only workaround is to keep cancelling and re-dialling the other person until the phone decides it might actually make the call after all. And this is both in the City of London and out in less densely populated areas, indoors or outdoors, any time of any day. Data, however, generally works fine wherever I am, since the 2.1 update.

I would like to say that I probably have a faulty phone, but just about everyone seems to have an iPhone these days and I witnessed a friend with a brand new one having to make several frustrating attempts at dialling someone this past weekend.

After the 2.1 update everything seemed fine. Until I made a phone call and it promptly dropped it. I have called AT&T customer support three times ******* and moaning each time about poor 3G coverage. Thinking they would give me money off my monthly bill for charging me 3G service I never really got. I mean come on ATT I live in SE portland with a 3G tower 6 blocks from my house and a repeater 1 block away. Nope. Each time they offer different solutions. I have exchanged my iphone x 2, swapped out SIM cards, reset phone daily, restored weekly, erased data monthly, unsyncned/resynced monthly, reset network settings weekly and any other crazy test they did from there side of the customer service department. And they finally figured out what the problem was.

The customer service rep said Mr. ##### do you still have your old ATT phone? Why yes I do.

Did you drop calls with that phone? No never. I did not even know what a dropped call was. Do you want to switch back to your old phone? Sure because I have an iHeadache.

Well I'm happy to report my POS simply cheap ATT cell phone has been running one week and no dropped calls. My phone bill also went down $40.

I have never been happier with AT&T and I get to keep my iPhone 3G. Would somebody please send me a PM when they get this sorted out and I will gladly come back to the iPhone.

Is this on EDGE or 3G.
If on 3G, have you tried turning it off?

(Yes I know that turning off 3G is not an ideal situation, but if it comes to having a phone OR a paperweight one has to do what makes sense...)

Bought 2 iphone 3G's in late September, and having problems making, receiving and holding conversations since then. Upgraded to version 2.1 right away, but didn't seem to improve the situation.

At work, I cannot answer a call. After saying "Hello" 3 or so times, I must hang up and call the other person back. Sometimes they hear the first "Hello," sometimes nothing. Calls routinely drop during conversation, both at work and home (in metropolitan Los Angeles). Even switched off 3G and I'm still having the same "cannot answer call" issue.

My signal at work varies wildly, sometimes showing only 1-2 bars and then jumping to 5 bars if I move the phone a foot in either direction. Have also called AT&T and replaced the SIM card on both iPhones, but this didn't improve anything either.

A representative from AT&T Technical Support told me that this is a "known problem" and that Apple is working on a firmware upgrade to fix it. I really hope this is the case, as my new iPhone is great except when I need to talk or listen to a call on it!

Count me in too. Recently I had my iPhone changed as the power button wasn't working well. Bam!! started the call drop problem. All my calls get dropped. Tried all possible solutions like getting a new Iphone, getting a new sim card from AT&T, calling the AT&T customer care and trying that Re-Provision thing(I have no idea what that is). But none seems to solve my problem. I was initially against the idea of switching off 3G. But tomorrow I am gonna do that. After all what's the use of 3G when I really cant make a call?

I wish I had stayed with my old iPhone 3G as I rarely use the stupid power button 😟

I have been experiencing dropped calls since I got my phone three months ago. After reading all these discussions I thought the problem was most certainly the iPhone. However, I finally did call ATT and they did something remotely to my phone and had me reboot it. And it does seem to be better. She also mentioned that my phone wasn't registered properly when I bought it. So she fixed that. I don't know. I'm crossing my fingers. I live in a downtown metro area with three towers within a mile and a half. She said I shouldn't be dropping calls like I am. It's worth a shot. Call ATT. She also said that Edge and 3G have nothing to do with the phone call... only the data. So turning of 3G should not affect your phone calling ability. Keep it on!

Dropped calls has started again
