Last Modified Date in File Find?

It is there in leopard from the finder press command + F it will bring up a search window, then add a search string, click the plus sign to add search string and from the drop down choose date modified and then you can specify within how many days.

I have to tell you that this "dumbing down" of the Finder surprised me too.

There is no way in Leopard (that I can find) to "recursively search a folder/drive" for all files with a specific string in a name and find out where the latest one is stored. "Last Opened" is a useless piece of information for anybody but auditors.

I'd like to be able to see, at the very least, the date modified, the size, and the path the file resides in. And be able to sort the output by any of those pieces of data.

All it would take is to allow us to go to "View -> Show View Options" and turn on additional columns of information. Ideally we'd be able to see the same "columns" that are shown in the regular "Finder".

I'll repost here if I can figure out how to perform what should be a built in search that returns useful information.

I have to agree. This is my number one complaint with Leopard. I do not know what the developers were thinking. I used the search and then list by last modified all the time. Now I am going to have to find another solution to do this. If there is any fix that anyone knows please let me know.

Yes, I cannot believe it. It's truly disappointing... and how long has it been this way? A year? When did Leopard come out?

Losing key search features and column criteria is really silly, especially after all the ballyhoo about the power of Spotlight, OS X's find, etc.

The tiny fonts on high res screens are my other peeve, well that, and the impossibly small font in the iTunes reviews screen. It must be 20 somethings who design these things! Just wait until their eyes start to change; maybe they'll understand then!

Anyone know how to change the font size in EasyFind or HoudahSpot?

I can't speak for Houdah Spot but in EasyFInd it isn't possible to change the font size; however in Easyfind you do get all the features that are missing in Spotlight, and the certainty that FileFind is searching everywhere.

Don't get me started on Spotlight or the Apple Fundamentalists will be in here putting me on trial 🙂

I really like Easy Find. I've been using it for several years and it's a great supplement to the Finder's Find. Maybe I'll play with the resolution independence to make it appear larger! In fact, I just did so and it works like a charm. Plus, I used iKey to launch it via Apple-F, displacing the Finder's Find.

However, I don't see how to have it default to searching the current folder either!

I do like how incredibly fast Find is on an Intel Mac vs. an iBook (most everything else seems slower). If only it would default to name and the folder one is looking at!

Just discovered that one can drag a folder to an EasyFind search window to change its focus-- OR, and this is even cooler, one can drag the icon at the top of a window for a folder to the search window to change the focus. That way, if you're within a folder, one can quickly drag the icon in the title bar to EF and change where it's searching. I'll have to see if I can script or automate this with command-F

I don't know if OS-X developers read these comments, but defaulting to "last opened" instead of "last modified" is more than asinine; it seems like a bug, and it obliterates search functionality for anyone who has more than a couple of versions of the same document on a computer.

It's a version control disaster.

I agree too! It's frustrating... i'm doing a finder search and want to see the actual file date (last modified) it only shows last opened... this ruins the whole search...

Ah, wait. The display/listing has no option to sort by Modified date.

That does appear to be a problem, a real feature oversight.
