Importing to FCP from sony HDR-SR12

For some time I've struggled to import video data from my sony HDR-SR12 (AVCHD files from the HD) to Final Cut Pro (and iMovie).

Can someone please try to guide me through the process (step by step)? What esay-setup should I use? I can't seem to import the files directly from my hard disk either.

Thanks!

Thanks for that Frank - yes indeed sony USA contradicts the Sony Europe site - there is a mic in port. I'm wondering is if the spec for Europe could be different - I'll definitely check that out. Thanks again for taking the time to find this out.

Just wondered also when you transfer and log from sr12 to FCP 6 - is it fast enough over USB as opposed to firewire - i.e. is it frustrating in that it does do it - but really is a bit of a chore?

John,

I haven't been finding Log and Transfer any more of a chore than Log and Capture was previously.

In theory once you have transferred some clips you can begin working on them while transfer of other clips continues. On my system I have found that the transfer of subsequent clips is sometimes aborted if I start to edit mid-transfer. So unless I'm in a desperate hurry to edit I generally just let transfer of the selected clips proceed to completion.

However I'm working on a lowly Mac Mini so this may be a factor in the above. Now that I think of it, I haven't tested whether transferring clips using Toast9 would be interrupted were I to start editing in FCP before transfer is complete. Probably worth checking out!

Hello there,

I am having a big problem and i'm wondering if there is anyone who can help fix it:

I recently installed Final Cut Suite 2.0 (version 6.0.5) to edit the films I record with my full HD Sony PMW-EX1 camera. As a way of recording, i use SxS PRO memory cards.

After importing the BPAV file (this is the SxS memory card's way of organizing the footage) onto my external hard drive, i used Final Cut Pro's "Log and Transfer" feature to open and view the files. However, nothing happened. I was only given an error message like this: ["BPAV" has invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media.] I figured it may be because it is on my external, so i placed the same files on my internal and repeated the process and the same thing occurred.
I even downloaded XDCam Transfer 2.7.1, 2.8, and XDCAM EX Log and Transfer Plugin 1.0, but still it didn't work at all.

Is there any other solutions to solve this problem, did i download the wrong download, I really need help and it would be greatly appreaciated asap

THANKS!
