Help!!! iPod won't sync with iTunes, iTunes freezes!

Hello, I'm sorry if this topic is already in an other one, but I couldn't find it.

First of all, I'm very pleased with my iPod Classic 160Gb, finally I can carry my complete collection with me. Since I'd installed the 8.0.1 update for iTunes, my iTunes freezes immediately, and my iPod won't show up in iTunes, and the screen of the Classic is stuck on "Connected".
If I don't connect, iTunes works perfectly, even with my iPhone (Everything works smoothly).

What is the problem?, I've tried everything, Reboot iPod Classic 160 Gb, reïnstall iTunes (complete deinstallation), i tried different USB-ports of my laptop, other USB-cabel, reboot PC. All updates, even my USB-ports. Can somebody please tell me what's happening? And solve my problem?

I didn't found this same problem in any of other topics, if someone finds the same topic WITH an answer, I would be pleased.

Acer Aspire 9410, Windows Vista, iPod Classic 160GB, iPhone 3G 8GB

You've got a corrupted piece of music it sounds. I know this sounds hard to believe, but I had the same issue. Sync your iPod and make note of the last song alpabetically to sync successfully. The next song (or maybe songs if its part of a compilation) in your library is the one causing the problem. Delete this from your library, reformat, restore, and resync. This should take care of it.

I sent the wife's Classic back to iPod and they returned it to me citing no issues. I have both my home computer and my work computer with the same piece of music and it was hanging in the same place...ABBA's Greatest Hits.

I think my problem is similar to yours, no recognition in iTunes or Windows(as an ipod). Though, windows does recognize a device though it is an "unknown device". I too have done quite a bit of research and found something interesting that has happened to other types of mp3 players ever since people have installed Service Pack 3 on their pc's. I still can't find anything else as far as a fix, but if anyone here does, PLEASE POST AND SHARE YOUR FEEL GOOD SOLUTION!

I have been having this problem with an older computer and a newer laptop. I could not add any songs to my ipod without a large amount of swearing and praying......I went to Best Buy to get a new ipod and they said it worked fine adn that my music might have been the wrong file type. I have been using these songs on over 5 ipods and other mp3 players including zunes and cheaper brands. After reformatting twice it it finally has started adding songs if i select about 20 songs or less at a time. This is not how my old ipod nano worked. If apple really wants to solve more than HALF of these problems by getting rid of their own special file type and just accept all files that way my itunes won't be laden with 4 or 5 copies of the same song. Different problem but still could be solved by the suggestion above. Hey apple ** off and fix your ipods or im selling it and switching to Zunes.

Well, I can't be 100% sure that this was the whole problem, but after trying EVERYTHING else, I happened to notice the option to 'Enable Disk Use' was selected on the summary screen for my iPod. After deselecting it, I crossed my fingers and tried again. My iPod is almost done syncing my entire library(18G). This was discovered using my desktop, I will be testing my laptop next(my fingers are still crossed).

So, not just throwing in another "me too." I'm wondering if anyone (on a Windows PC) has tried these steps. If not, give it a shot. Even if you think it might not work.

Change iPod drive letter:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1493

Re-Register .dll files:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539

And, in response to someone, you can contact Apple via phone regarding your iPod directly:
http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

And these forums are reviewed by hosts/moderators, and are occasionally visted by Apple's technical support team. If you want technical help directly from Apple, you need to call them.

This is my first time on this site, but like everyone above me I have the $250 paper weight at this point in time, not too mention the hours spent trying to find a solution. I have read all of these and I guess I am confused, I thought Apple would contribute answers to this site. I guess they are expecting us to solve the problem. I have a feeling there are not enough hours to figure this one out, but what a waste of 80g I am going to try to contact them via the information someone else left and if I hear anything I will post back - don't hold your breath...

ha I posted a topic just like this one, then noticed this...

Well here's my situation:
My 120 GB iPod classic has frozen - it says 'Connected, Eject before disconnecting' and has the 'hold' and 'charging' icons on the screen, regardless of whether or not it is plugged in or on hold.
It won't show up in iTunes, except occasionally when a message appears saying 'your iPod will need to be reformatted, would you like to run iTunes to do this?'. When I click 'yes' iTunes opens, tells me my iPod is corrupted and says I have to restore factory settings. When I click 'Restore' it appears to start working - a little box saying 'Extracting software' appears and the green bar fills up - but then nothing happens and iTunes freezes. This has happened several times.
I've tried doing things on the Apple support pages, like uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and trying to reset the iPod (by holding down the centre button and the menu button at the same time) but nothing seems to work.

I can't believe that so many people have had this problem and yet Apple doesn't even seem to have noticed. Why haven't they posted here with advice? Even if it is to tell us to take our iPods to the nearest store... I bet they're laughing all the way to the bank.

I have the exact same problem as you.
I thought I was the only one who had this
but then I see all the people that have the same problem.
the problem is that I plug my Ipod in and it goes on Itunes but then it freezes my whole computer and it also stops syncing and a whole bunch of errors comes up
I really need someone to solve this problem.
because I'm not wasteing $250 for nothing

Too much time has passed and there should be some kind of presence from apple. We are here AT THEIR SUPPORT WEBSITE. HELLO hello. My biggest issues are 1. Nobody from apple is taking the time to monitor substantial common problems that are unresolved.
2. When you use Itunes diagnostic, it does not direct you to troubleshoot your particular problem. Every error should have a series of troubleshooting remedies. I went to Best buy and they would not service or handle the warranty servicing, despite me buying it there. I have to drive 60 miles to Apple. This really enrages me, it's like road rage. It wastes SO much time, googling for resolutions and remedies. For every convenience Apple products provide, their negligence results in an equal or greater inconvenience.

*Check iPod hard-drive for errors*
Hold Select+Menu on the iPod for about 6 seconds until it resets, then hold Select+Play as soon as the Apple logo appears, again for about 6 seconds to put the machine in disk mode. Open iTunes and in the Sync tab of the preferences menu check *Disable automatic syncing of all iPhones & iPods*. Now connect your iPod to the computer, wait until it connects, then close iTunes. Browse *My Computer* and right-click on the drive for the iPod, click Properties, then click Tools. Under Error-checking, click *Check Now*. Under Check disk options, select *Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors* (Optional - takes ages but a good idea if you've reason to suspect physical damage). Click Start. Mac users should run *Disk Utility / Repair Disk* for the equivalent process. This should find and correct any errors in the logical & physical structures of your iPod's hard drive. Once these have been fixed you can reset the iPod (hold Menu+Select ) and should stand a better chance of a successful restore. Likewise it may pay to check the source drive where the music is stored.

If that still doesn't help try Erase your iPod - The Super Fix for most iPod Problems. Basically a low level format of the iPod’s hard drive to get around whatever problems are stopping iTunes from restoring it.

Once you've restored your iPod don't rush to dump all the data back exactly as it was before. I have found that lots of large or complex smart playlists can sometimes trigger constant reboots or dumping of the iPod's library. In addition, larger transfers can fail leaving data in an inconsistent state. Try this technique for populating the iPod in stages.

*Break up large transfers*
In iTunes select the menu item *File... New Smart Playlist*. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music. Tick against *Limit to*, type in say 10, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete modify the rule ( *File... Edit playlist* ) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos, playlists etc.
