Help!!! iPod won't sync with iTunes, iTunes freezes!

Hello, I'm sorry if this topic is already in an other one, but I couldn't find it.

First of all, I'm very pleased with my iPod Classic 160Gb, finally I can carry my complete collection with me. Since I'd installed the 8.0.1 update for iTunes, my iTunes freezes immediately, and my iPod won't show up in iTunes, and the screen of the Classic is stuck on "Connected".
If I don't connect, iTunes works perfectly, even with my iPhone (Everything works smoothly).

What is the problem?, I've tried everything, Reboot iPod Classic 160 Gb, reïnstall iTunes (complete deinstallation), i tried different USB-ports of my laptop, other USB-cabel, reboot PC. All updates, even my USB-ports. Can somebody please tell me what's happening? And solve my problem?

I didn't found this same problem in any of other topics, if someone finds the same topic WITH an answer, I would be pleased.

i also have somewhat of the same problem.
i have an 80 gb classic, and it worked fine until i upgraded to itunes 8.1

now when i plug in my ipod, i cant sync, edit, or play songs on my ipod on my computer. it freezes my itunes.
but my friend has an ipod nano and i plugged into the same computer that i use and his worked just fine.

so im not really sure what the problem is, but maybe the software from the newer version of itunes is messing with the software on ipod classics.
i have no idea.

but it really *****.

So i've been having this same problem for the last two months as well. I have seen quite a few solutions, but they all seem to be for Macs.

FINALLY, I HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION! I have a 1st generation 4GB Nano, but i'm pretty sure it'll work for others.

1. Plug in your iPod and close iTunes.
2. Go to "My Computer". Click on the iPod drive ONCE (on my computer it is F:). Go to File, then click Properties.
3. Go to the Tools tab. Under "Error Checking", click Check Now.
4. Check both boxes. One says "Automatically fix file system errors" and the other says "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". CHECK THEM BOTH and hit Start.

Once this is finished (mine took about an hour), restart iTunes and everything should be fine. I have synced several times since then and it works fine. Hopefully it works for everyone like it worked for me 🙂

Note I didnt really write this, but this worked for me also, and i have an ipod classic.

Ugh I can't even use this method because everything just freezes when I hook up my ipod. Its either something on it that's corrupt of the fact that it took a small tumble a few days ago.

Can anyone please tell me if there is a way to completely clear it without hooking it up to itunes. Maybe some kind of other program. I know that itunes has a restore button in it but it won't even recognise it when I connect the thing and I have to force quit every time because itunes completely freezes.

here's what i did.. well, i got it through surfing around the net. i hope this would help you guys too.

for windows users:

1. plug-in your ipod and set to "enable disk use"
2. go to control panel
3. select and open "system"
4. under the hardware tab, select "device manager"
5. under disk drives, right-click your ipod
6. select properties
7. under the policies tab, select "optimize for performance"
8. done.

this has something to do with caching files, making a drive easier to write on.
that's it. i really hope this helps because this is exactly what i did.
