Scratched Ipod Nano screen

After one day of owning the black Ipod Nano, I noticed that there was a horizontal white line on the screen, even though I had been protecting the Nano with the original plastic. After a couple of days, I removed the plastic and since then, the Nano has been developing more white lines on the screen. Is this normal? Does anyone else have the same experience? Are this white lines scratches?

Thank you.

Look its a portable music device, it should be able to withstand going into pockets etc.. not with keys or coins but the fact that cloth scratches the screen is bad manufacturing.

If the device cannot withstand the function it was advertised for, ie using it in your pocket will render the screen full of scratches, making the screen unreadable, making the ipod unusable. Then its not fit for the purpose. Mobile phone manufactures solved problems like these years ago, without losing form or function.

Sammy why it is a ridiculous post?

Yes it plays music, its primary purpose, but its not portable if it gets damaged when carrying it around. Do you have a nano? I had a black one and took it back because after a couple of uses the whole front was scratched up and the screen was getting harder to see.

My other white ipod 3G isnt scratched at all after a good couple years of use. Before anone accuses me of not taking care of it, it was scratched by the inside cloth of my coat and by the headpone cable moving against it.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. A black 4gb one. It's ridiculous for exactly the reason firemandan suggested. I love the nano's size and it plays music very well. I can leave it in my pocket and I don't even know it's there. It serves it's advertised purpose very well. Are there scratches, even though I've got it in an iPod sock? Yes there are. Do I notice them if I'm not looking for them? No I don't. Does my cell phone have scratches? Yup. Does my 40gig iPod have scratches? Yup. Does my car? Yup. Does any of that affect how they work? Absolutely not.

I'd get laughed at (and rightly so) if I took my car back because it got scratched while driving. How is the nano getting scratched while being used any different?

The question is not should it be scratch proof? Everything scratches its a fact of life. Things wear out, batteries die, I accept all these thing.

My point and that of many others is that there should be no reason the nano scratches so easily, My screen was geting hazy because of all the little scratches and a few big ones. After a couple of days, what in a few months? The frosted look wouldnt help when using the screen.

Now maybe I got one of a bad batch, some people are reporting theirs seem scratch proof, mine on the other hand was on the opposite end of the scale.

Hey Matt,

I've given up on complaining or reacting to the Apple butt boys and apologists, who post that scratching is no big deal. I've also decided to change my thinking about Apple. They designed the Nano to scratch easily. This way they could sell more replacements, and Nano tubes. They discontinued the mini because it held up perfectly to daily use, and thus they would not be able to make more money selling cases or replacements.

Well everybody who owns a nano has a right to have an opinion about the scratches issue. If they want to live with that great, im glad for them. I hope in a few months time they are still usable.

My point is not one of Apple trying to sell more cases, but one of bad manufacturing / poor choice of material for the outer plastic. None of my other gadgets suffer from the same problem, but most if not all have an outer transparent plastic. Sony PSP, numerous SE phones, older ipod, ibooks at work, my apple lcd screen etc etc.. All still looking good.

In fact the 20" cinema dispay suffered from a picture frame (glass and wood) falling off the wall in high winds, and hitting it knocking it over onto the screen. No damage to the transparent plastic at all.
