mini-DVI to mini-Display port connector?

Is Apple releasing a cable that connects mini-dvi to mini-display port?

My company today told me that I will get a new Macbook Pro with a mini-display port built in, but I ordered a cinema display directly from Apple.

I plan to connect the new Macbook Pro to the new cinema display (so I can watch all my TV shows in GLORIOUS HD AND IN C.O.L.O.U.R) but I also want to connect my old black Macbook, and my Mac Pro to the new cinema display. (so other members in my family can use the display on their own macbooks when I'm not using it)

This cable will REALLY help, otherwise, I feel like I just bought a new display for myself.

Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Although the 24inch display website says "will work with mini display port" there is no mention that it WILL NOT work with mini DVIs.

I am a jack@ss to have brought this jack@ss product and opened it too.And i should have read these reviews b4 buying it. dang the one time, i dont do it and i get burnt.

APPLE- please enjoy my 60 dollars donation(restocking fee) towards ur charity work.

So apparently Atlona has made a device to fix Apple's compatability issues with older macs, I bought a MBP in late 2008 thinking that it would last me for a little while with out doing MAJOR upgrades. My only issue is that it does not go on sale for 6 weeks for today (7/30) I know, I called. but for 179 duckettes, I'm buying it.

According to the latest from this press release below, release date is now 9/26: http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/09/22/atlona.adapter.converts.dvi.to.min i.displayport/

Can this be used along with a DVI to Mini DisplayPort adapter? (to get into the 24" LED)

No. DVI and DisplayPort are two different protocols. Simply changing the connector type through a series of cables and adapters will not change the nature of the signals themselves, which also needs to happen. That's why an expensive translation box is required.

I simply cannot believe the plain, simple wickedness of Apple's behavior in this matter. The Apple site page for the monitor does not make it remotely clear that the monitor is incompatible with much of their installed base of computers. They offer no solution. Period. They do not address the problem. They do not speak. They hope the problem will disappear. I— I'm speechless. I haven't seen customer service this bad outside of the airline industry. Customers are being duped into buying quite expensive equipment, and Apple then offers no recourse but to pay Apple for the privilege of having owned a useless product for a few minutes. This has very nearly driven me back to Windows and the PC.

Now a question. The Atlona AT-DP200 sounds like the best "solution" for those who still want to pursue one. We won't mention that a surprise additional $150 cost and an ugly box with multiple cables hardly qualifies as a "solution." Ack! Must stop ranting! The question: The Atlona site claims that their device connects to Mini-DVI. But nothing about the box or the Atlona manual shows how Mini-DVI actually connects. So, does it connect? How does it connect?

Did I mention that I'm angry, Apple? That you've lost much of my faith and you're close to losing the rest of my adult paying life?

Hello DimBimbleby....I TOTALLY ECHO your statements about Apple! Very shoddy support or consideration on their behalf....must be a touch of 'Microsoftism' infiltrating their ranks! I am still humming and ha-ing about rather just purchasing a normal monitor for my wife's PC notebook! The only hassle of course is the additional 'real estate' required in the study!

The converter has a male DVI connector

If your computer uses Mini-DVI, you will also need a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter
