Can't burn a CD from iTunes - "Burning Disc...finishing"

Using iTunes 8 with a machine that has never had previous problems burning CDs...trying to burn an audio CD with purchased music...17 songs, 52 minutes, 49 MB, onto a blank 80 minute/700 MB CD. After clicking the "burn disc" button, it goes rather quickly to a status of "Burning Disc...finishing" and hangs there (I have waited over an hour on this latest attempt). This has occurred twice now with different CDs, and iTunes doesn't really let me abort the burn. I can't get the CD to eject without rebooting the machine. My account is authorized on this machine.

They can add my new G-5 to the list of Macs that are affected by the itunes mystery. To beat it all, it was my very first time burning a CD in it! I did try putting my computer alseep, and then awakened it moments later, and indeed the CD popped right out. After that I got the sign that said it failed because of a media problem. But after reading all of the above respones, I was afraid to proceeed any further, and ruin multiple CD blanks on the same result. I depend on making CDs of my own compositions for demos, and this is really putting a damper on my business. I hope itunes addresses this quickly!

Exactly the same problem. Very annoyed that Apple is not hearing all of us with same problem.
Would just like to downgrade back to previous version of itunes?
I anticipate problems to backfire if reverting back due to having an iphone that has issues if not upgrading frequently. Being unable to burn CD's is making me tempered.
Hope that a fix is in the making soon...Not impressed:(

Has anyone here tried removing the iTunes preferences file, or tried burning in another account (create a new test account if necessary)?

Is this issue just with iTunes, or do other iLife applications burn media fine? Try creating a photo CD in iPhoto (using the Share --> Burn menu options) to see if that application works. I believe Toast uses a proprietary burning technology/routine, and it'd be nice to see if this problem is shared by the iLife suite.

How about PRAM resets (shot in the dark)?

Someone mentioned this in another forum I found - when trying to burn after an upgrade to 7 awhile back. They suggested this - I haven't tried it yet but I will post it for anyone who wants to give it a go:

Right click iTunes --> properties --> security (tab) --> highlight your account name --> edit --> highlight your account name -->"full control" box check.

See if that makes any difference.

So I tried again today to burn a CD after my last failures a month ago...and it worked! Once. I tried burning another disc and I got the same problem as before–my machine freezing up. I can't put it to sleep like was suggested, because the whole machine is frozen, so I have to power off.
I've been able to use the free program Burn to make CDs without problems. It works fine; no playlists, though. If you click and drag a playlist from iTunes that is made up of tracks from multiple albums, it won't keep the tracks in the same order (depends on how your original list is ordered)...so you might have to reorder them to match your original list if that is important to you. But at least it works fine!

Also, when I reopened my iTunes, many playlists were gone, and some of the music clearly in my iTunes library wasn't actually in iTunes, so I had to re-import the tracks. I'm not sure what's exactly not there, but I know the last few discs I got from eMusic were not in the library, even though when I opened the library, the tracks were there. If that makes sense to anyone.

Hi, i'm having a similar problem, except when pressing multiple audio CD's to burn a slightly large playlist, only 31 songs, iTunes seemingly starts burning them just fine...
Until i find out it's only burnt 3 songs to each CD, used approx 1/5 of the CD, not happy!

Anybody know of a way to remedy this?

P.S i'm running iTunes 8.1 in Leopard, if that means anything.

Don't know if this will solve anyone's issues (including mine) but I just read a newspaper article where someone was having a problem with iTunes freezing up. The situation was different (and it was on Windows) because someone was trying to use Apple TV with iTunes. The solution was to go to iTunes Preferences>AppleTV and uncheck "look for Apple TVs." These discussion boards were credited as the source of the solution.

Although I don't have Apple TV, that check box WAS checked on my iTunes. I've unchecked it now, but haven't tried to burn a disc yet. Possibly this possible solution is worth a try!

I've been burning my last few discs in the free program Burn for a while. Works just fine!

If anyone tries this, let us know!

I'm just today having problems burning CDs, too. I recently upgraded to iTunes 8.1 (50) and I get the "initializing...burning...finishing...error message: Attempt to burn a disc failed. An internal error occurred." My last burn in the iTunes version 8.0 was fine and now I cannot burn ANY CD in ANY FORMAT as I keep getting the same error message? Why is it taking Apple so long to fix this problem and it appears older versions of iTunes have had the problem going back into late '08 and still thru today in March of '09! Anyone know where I can get the older iTunes to revert to?

I am too frustrated with iTunes since the upgrade to 8.1. I have tried unsucessfully to burn 2 albums three times each. According to CD burner software, all the music is on the disc in audio format but I have tried to listen to it in my DVD drive using iTunes, Windows Media Player, a Sony CD player and my TV DVD playing. No audio! I contacted iTunes and the information given was the same as I was already doing. I have even tried lowering the burn speed from Maximum allowed to 12X.

I called Apple for support. After a lenghty discussion, it was suggested that I uninstall iTunes and other Apple applications and then download 8.1 again. Well now I can hear the music if the stuttering and background noise does not affect my enjoyment [fat chance].

Apple says the following: 1.Disc may be bad [okay but 2? What are the odds of that?] or 2. DVD drive is bad. Hmm then why can I play previously burned discs made prior to the upgrade?

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully accepted. I told iTunes I will not be purchasing any more music until the address/fix this issue. I can buy a CD from another source and have the confidence of being able to use it to reload my music if my computer crashes.
