Can't burn a CD from iTunes - "Burning Disc...finishing"

Using iTunes 8 with a machine that has never had previous problems burning CDs...trying to burn an audio CD with purchased music...17 songs, 52 minutes, 49 MB, onto a blank 80 minute/700 MB CD. After clicking the "burn disc" button, it goes rather quickly to a status of "Burning Disc...finishing" and hangs there (I have waited over an hour on this latest attempt). This has occurred twice now with different CDs, and iTunes doesn't really let me abort the burn. I can't get the CD to eject without rebooting the machine. My account is authorized on this machine.

I'm having a similar problem after installing 8.1 (skipped 8.0). After quite a long bit of "churning, churning", my Macbook Pro keeps kicking out the blank CD -- iomega, verbatim, CD-R, 1x - 16X and calling for a blank disc! Doesn't make any difference when it is inserted, somehow it can't be found. Pure frustration!

Since it's buried in the thread now, I mentioned that I'm now using the free program "Burn" to make my audio CDs and mp3 discs. Simple and fast. Works great. I haven't tried burning with the latest iTunes update just because I don't have the time to deal with a computer freeze right now, if ever!

i'm on vista and had the exact same problem for quite a while now!!!

solved the problem by:

* uninstalling itunes8
* then go to c:/my documents/my music/itunes

(i cut all the files/folders appart from the "iTunes music" folder ..and then pasted them into a new folder elsewhere... i dont know if you have to get rid of all of them... but when you install itunes 7... it does not work because the libary files for itunes8 are not compatible)

* google "download itunes 7" - think its the third one down from oldapps. com
*download / install the last version before itunes 8 came out!

simples!!!

took about the same time as it took two of the failed attempts trying to burn cd's on itunes 8 ...the only way i could get the cd out the drive then was by turning my computer off at the power!!! you can import all the music back in really easily but because your not using the old library file.. you do lose your playlists...for me i only had 6 or 7 soi dont really care too much!

it is a bit rediculous that apple are taking so long to fix the problem!

Same here
Updated iTunes last year and find out today, trying to backup a playlist, iTunes doesn't burn any CD's anymore.

Details (for the occasional Apple specialist that is going to solve this 🙂
- Intel Core 2 duo iMac 2.33GHz 3GB Ram
- OS X 10.4.11
- iTunes 8.0.1
- checkecd permissions (with diskutility)
- checked and rebuilt directory (with DiskWarrior)
- zapped pram (boot with cmd-option-P-R until second chime heard)
- reset SMC (as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543)
None of this resolves this issue.
Hm, Apple is doing their mouth shut thingie again 😟

I decided to burn a cd from a playlist today and found out that I have similar problems to you guys mentioned in this post

I have to FORCE QUIT out of itunes I then have to physically get the disc out of the tray with a paper clip , as the burner is sort of...well... dead! The burner is Pioneer DVR 112

If I burn from an external Pioneer DVR-110D it burns fine

I have also just opened up Toast Titanium and tried to burn a disc by dragging the playlist fom itunes into the music section in Toast Tit' ..i got halfway before a buffer error,,,

Hope this helps in getting someone more clever than me to sort it out

Thanks in advance
