Inquisitor plug-in for Safari - Google bug

Hi.

I've been using Inquisitor for Safari for a while now. Recently, out of the blue as far as I can tell, Safari stopped loading pages after running for a little while (the loading bar would fill a little and then nothing would happen, as if my internet connection was faulty - only it's not, since another browser worked just fine at the same time).

I tried the Empty Cache/Reset Safari, but it didn't help. Also, repairing disk permissions and trashing preferences did nothing.

I discovered that using Google as the search engine in Inquisitor is the cuase of the problem. I then switched to Yahoo and all seems well again.

Did anybody else experience this? Did you find a solution to it, other than switching to Yahoo? (I'd like to keep using Google)

Yes, I noticed that yesterday but made the wrong diagnosis and downloaded and re-installed Inquisitor.

On their web site I noticed that there was a new tie-up between Yahoo and Inquisitor, which may explain it. Annoying, as I dislike Yahoo.

Closer reading of their web page reveals that the developer has sold Inquisitor to Yahoo and now works for them, and the comments posted there are generally not happy.

This is confirmed by the comments at VersionTracker.

I have trashed Inquisitor, which no longer works as it should with Safari.

I have not been able locate a download of the version previous to 3.2.

Ditto here. Had switched back to Firefox in the interim, once I realized I wasn't having network issues but Inquisitor issues. Too bad, since it used to be a great addition. Off to uninstall, I guess.

Also not working here. Very frustrating as I used inquisitor all the time. It does work fine with Yahoo...but doesn't matter as I want to do a Google search with it. I've had to uninstall it.
Any ideas on getting it to work?

Now it's actually owned by Yahoo - no.

If anyone can find a download for the older pre-Yahoo version, would they please post the link here!

The developer posted an update today, Oct. 16, (build 58) that corrects this issue. Google no longer hangs Safari.

If you're looking for a version that still works perfectly well with Google, I'm using 3.0 (v47), even though the developer had sold Inquisitor to Yahoo! at that time and worked for them. But I've never had a problem with it and Safari. You can get it here:

Yes, though I did ask them to put it back, but no reply yet, if ever. I thought it was being considerate to not post a 295-character URL for it and use a tinyurl instead. Still, for those that want 3.0 (v47), you can open a download window and paste in this whole line (don't click on it):

I think the problem (without consulting the TOU) is that they don't like links that provide an instant download, but prefer links to web sites that offer a download.

You're probably right, even though it's completely silly. I checked all over, even the Wayback machine and there were no captures of the download links for prior versions there, so at least they can't say I didn't try to provide some other link.

I have installed inquisitor and I prefer using google for searching. I can't seem to figure out how to uninstall this thing. Any ideas or help?

I did a spotlight search and deleted everything with "inquisitor" on it (which was just one thing: the setup) but it's still there!! I'm having windows flashbacks of NEVER getting rid of a bloody thing!

Add me to the list. I had a client that I was troubleshooting this issue for and couldn't believe this was the outcome. "yahoo" aspect works fine, "google" cripples Safari and the wireless network. I almost replaced a router, among other drastic measures.

It's absolutely absurd that they so clearly created this problem!
