Help!!! Separate Left and Right Channels in iTunes

Hello, I'm having a very hard time trying to find a way to separate the left and right channels in iTunes for a true stereo sound. This problem does not occur in other programs, just iTunes. It is very inconvenient to have to use my iPod to get true stereo sound that does not blend the channels. Is there any possible way to get this to happen in iTunes? Thanks!

Macbook Air, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

I run iTunes 7.5 so I am not up to date on the recent releases. 7.5 has a few settings in Preferences which control the sound but not any I can see that would affect stereo quality. There are also Equalizer settings available both for itunes in general under the View menu, and for each individual tune under Options when you Get Info for a tune. These don't directly set stereo separation but different equalizer settings may change some perception.

The other possibility is you are hearing something VLC is doing. I know VLC has quite an extensive set of video and audio adjustment features if you dig down in the right menus.

Incidentally, I have some tracks (e.g., some by The Beatles) where there is almost 100% separation of the two channels (e.g., vocals out one channel and none out the other), and iTunes plays those normally.

Are you listening to the same songs using the same devices? For example, if you listen to your computer using speakers and you iPod using headphones you will not get the same effects. Headphones will be more effective in isolating your ear from the sounds produced in the speaker for the other ear and effect more of a separated stereo. If you are using built-in speakers there will be very little physical separation between the two channels and you could try external apeakers placed further apart.

Yes, I had this problem in 7.x iTunes and I was hoping that there would be some sort of fix in 8.x. I tried adjusting equalizer settings and had no luck there. I even purchased an add-on (SRS iWOW) and still, no luck with that either. I know this is a problem unique to iTunes, as when I listen to the same tracks in any other program, there is no problem. I was just hoping that itunes itself would have some sort of way to fix this.

I am having the same problem....I need complete separation of left and right....(I have the click track in the left and all the music in the right for my band to play sequences...it's fine in the arrange window of Logic but after bouncing to itunes.....it's all mushed together....so it IS separate in an ipod??

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.
