Where can I download a copy of Allume's DropStuff with Expander Enhancer v. 4.5? StuffIt Expander is unable to open my Compact Pro compressed archives such as Bomb Shelter's .cpt file that results after you decode the original file with either MindExpander or StuffIt Expander 5.5. It would be nice to have a better/easier way to decode .cpt/Compact Pro archives since Compact Pro is ShareWare but yet the company who made it is out of business/defunct now.
Refurbished iMac G5 "17 1.8 GHz and PowerBook G4 "12 1.5 GHz,
Mac OS X (10.5.5),
2 and 1.25 GBs of RAM
I've already looked through the Archive sub-directory of Allume's FTP server quite thoroughly: unfortunately all the archives are labeled as being only DropStuff thus it's impossible to tell if they contain Expander Enhancer too. While it's also true that DropStuff with Expander Enhancer used to be ShareWare Allume no longer support it or sells it as evidenced by their Support site: it's no longer listed it as being officially supported.
Which leads me to believe such an old version as v. 4.5 is now technically abandonware like many other abandoned Mac software titles. Even if I tried to buy it from Allume's On-Line Store I doubt it even still exists in their inventory: if they even still sell it the version number would be for PowerPC Macs & not 68k Macs (which I intend to use the Extension on; not PowerPC). Personally I blame Gamba for hosting a .cpt.hqx version of BombShelter on his site when my tests show that Zip or .tgz or StuffIt compression algorithms yield much smaller file sizes anyway.
Zip is a bad idea since it doesn't always decompress properly on 68k Macs but .tgz or StuffIt might actually work properly.
Thanks for sending me the file Limnos: actually I just bought an almost brand new copy of the Internet Starter Kit for Dummies Sixth Edition which includes a hybrid software CD-ROM containing the latest version 4.5 of DropStuff with Expander Enhancer so hopefully I won't need the file you just e-mailed me. Thanks for the thought: if I ever have multiple old Macs running at once & I can only use the software CD-ROM in one Mac at a time I might use the attachment in your e-mail to install it onto an older 68k Mac once I finish reserving IP addresses in our router out in my computer lab here for old Macs that can't get IP addresses normally to use.
