Trackpad issues

Is anyone else having issues with the new trackpad?

I find my thumb rests near or on the pad, as it has been used to doing for 7 years of using tibooks and later. What happens is:

* Clicks are missed, because two fingers are down
* The cursor stops moving, because the Mac is confused that I might be meaning to do a scroll
* Safari text zooms in and out, as it implements pinch for page zoom, and if the thumb is anywhere near the pad, it registers as a second finger.

I'd like an option to dedicate a certain portion of the bottom of the pad as a button only.

I returned my new MBP 15" yesterday because of sleep/wake problems and the same trackpad issues. They didn't even blink at the Apple Store and refunded my money including the restocking fee. Apparently mine was the 4th MBP returned yesterday for the same problem and they were aware of the trackpad issue and were able to recreate it right there at the Genius Bar.

Hope they get this ironed out soon, for now I'm back to my early 2008 MBP.

Having the same issues guys. I need to press at least 5 or 6 times to click somthing bec it doesn't do it in the first one. When in Safari the text gets smaller and bigger while I browse the internet. And the mouse cursor is all over the place while I ret my hand on the side as always with the older model of mbp. This is strange and I'm waiting apple to release an update fix for this.

i dunno if i'm alone..
but please tell me if you have the same thing going on:

a. the top of the trackpad does not click at all
b. different sides of the trackpad are elevated higher/lower
c. if i use the tap, and i tap on the left half of the trackpad, it is weird low-quality-manufacturing sounding
d.if i click on the right, it's harder to click on the left

IT'S VERY VERY ANNOYING
IS THIS REASON TO EXCHANGE?

I am having the issue that others have noted with the trackpad. It only works 60 or 80% of the time to register a click, even though I get a solid sound out of it and try to hit it like I normally would.

For the short term I have set the trackpad to accept a tap as click, but this is only a short-term workaround. I am going to see if Apple comes out with something in the next few days. Otherwise, back it goes.

How annoying that so many are having this problem. Mine is a CTO 2.8/320/7200, so I'm not sure if I can bring it back to an Apple store or if I have to return it over the phone.

I installed Parallels and wasted a Vista and Office activation. If I have to change hardware, I don't know if activation will go smoothly. I should have waited to do that ... ugh.

You are married to that unit. Apple will either fix it at the Apple Store or send it in. If you want your money back or exchanged, it's out of the question. Here is a quote from their return policy:

"Configure-to-order, personalized or other customized products may not be returned for refund or exchange under any circumstances unless such product is Dead on Arrival (see the section below for more detailed information on such Dead on Arrival products)."
