Aperture freezes when trying to use vaults

I tried to delete a vault. Aperture froze and I had to force quit it.
I removed vault file manually from disk.
Since then Aperture slows down or freezes every time I try to open vault view pane or add new vault form menu. Other functions seem to work as usual.

I removed and then re-installed Aperture to fix it but with no luck.
So I think it is a problem within library.
Any ideas how to fix that?

I also am having problems with the vault facility in Aperture

I had previously setup a vault in Aperture 2 that operated fine. The disk was 500GB Western Digital My Book, and needed no re-formating). I eventually canned this vault and set it up as a time machine disk for backup purposes - the intent was obviously to use this to backup more than just Aperture

What has been worrying me of late is that the time machine disk is always connected to power and am worried that in the event of a power outage and subsequent surge both my IMAC and time machine disks are fried, or alternatively that through theft I loose both the IMAC and time machine disk

I therefore went and bought a 250GB Western Digital passport disk that could once again be used as a vault and kept off site. Problem is I experience the same problems many of you have.

I therefore re-formatted the disk (as suggested below), setup the vault in Aperture, and backed up the vault. During the process a screen popup stated the following (the WD250GB passport disk was also disconnected from the oirt by the system):

12434 errors occurred. The first 5 are:

Any suggestions?

But I was hoping with the latest Aperture update this issue would've been resolved. I had kept my patience for many months, having to manually copy-and-paste my Aperture library onto my back-up drive, a process which took hours. And yet, after applying the 2.1.3 update, I notice nothing has been done to address this issue. I strongly urge everyone that is having Vault freeze-up issues to send feedback to Apple using the Aperture -> Provide Feedback link within Aperture or frankly, I will consider the alternative options out there for RAW workflow. This, ladies and gentlemen, is quite frankly bullsh*t. For a pro-level application to have these types of flaws is simply unacceptable.
