"usb Device not recognized"

my computer or itunes do not recognize my shuffle, i tried to follow the tips at the thread below:

Barty Lambert, "Ipod Flashes Green and Orange And Doesnt appear in itunes", 04:38am Oct 27, 2005 CDT

However my symptoms are different, i plug in the shuffle into my high powered usb 2.0 port and i get a green light, followed by a green and orange ligt simultaneously, along with a glimmer of hope, then i get a full orange light for a few seconds, then in the taskbar i get a pop up saying "one of the device attached to the computer has malfunctioned" and the light goes away. at the moment i can still charge via a ps/2 port using a converter type thing that came with my logitech mouse but i can't sync nor use it as a memory stick. i am going to apply for applcare warranty on monday online, was just wondering do any of you know how to fix this? at least i know the usb port isn't damaged as it can charge.

also i never touched those hidden files on my ipod called "ipod_control" or something along those lines, so it isn't a software prolem.

I have tried uninstalling everything to do with my ipod including quicktime, installed the softaware CD, still no luck, also i then updated, still no luck.

(sorry for the long winded post)

I am having a problem with my ipod not being recongnized. Except I get a message saying this device has malfunctioned? I got it the other day and it loaded fine and actually was taking songs from my itunes and putting them on the ipod. But now USB won't recongized it and when you turn it on the green light on the front is on for two seconds and then goes off????????? What is the deal does anyone know!
