Thanks, that is a useful point. Now you mention it, one of the annoying things about my 12" PB is that when I'm out in daylight it can be difficult sometimes to see the screen.

If as you say an LED screen is that much brighter, then maybe the step up to MacBook would suite my needs.

I also do photo retouching -but rarely on the move. I wonder if there are other features that in the minds of users in this thread would turn the 13" MB into a 13" MBP. I've heard about the firewire - anything else? I assume there isn't enough space inside a MB for the same Graphics chips as in the 15" MBP?

How did you calibrate it? Washed out colors can be a symptom of an inappropriately high target luminance value (no black). Or try calibrating to gamma 2.2 instead of the factory 1.8 which doesn't match the rest of the world and I think is too light.

well, I'm gonna wait six months (for) the next Macbook update... and hope (for) an Apple solution.

The old MacBook Pro shipped without FireWire 800 for a short while before it was added back.

FireWire is a "MUST HAVE".

Thousands of computer peripherals use Firewire, with more coming out all the time.

I used 2.2 for the gamma, and matched up all the colors and intensitites in the steps for calibrating. It's not so much a problem, but more of an observation. The screen is viewable, but definitely brighter and less rich than my PowerBook G4.
