Sleep Issue - New MacBook Pro

Just picked up a new MacBook Pro last night. Seems like a very nice machine (coming from a rev B, 1st gen MBP). An oddity, though. When closing the lid to put it in sleep mode it seems to awaken for a few seconds every 45 seconds. There will be an audible bzz-bzzzt (as if the hard drive spun briefly), then the apple logo light built into the lid illuminates for a few seconds. It then extinguishes and 45 seconds later the pattern repeats.

I'm not seeing anything in Energy Saver settings to tweak for this. Any ideas?

I tried both sleep modes, it didn't make a difference. I also created a new user with pristine settings, archived and reinstalled the system software with all available updates, and I still get the "reboot on wake" issue. I have tried pretty well everything mentioned in this thread aside from completely wiping the hard drive and installing a fresh OS, all to no avail.

On the plus side, at least the issue is reproducible for me -- put the computer to sleep for at least 30 minutes, then open it up to hear the reboot chime. "Works" most of the time.

Looks like the MBP 2008 is a lemon.

Just thought I'd add in that I've tried every SINGLE fix on this page, and my unibody MBP still decides to turn itself on whilst in my neoprene sleeve. I open my bag to find it hot and fans whirring. 50% of battery life has drained because of the fans, then it's unresponsive and screen is black.

This is certainly an issue which apple need to address. It shouldn't have happened once, but has now happened a number of times for me, under different circumstances. I'm complaining to apple, again.

We should be able to rely on this pro machine. I find myself itching for my old reliable macbook time and time again.

This is my fourth MacBook Pro because the first three all had the sleep issue. When I took the third one back, the genius at the Apple store swapped the hard drive from it to the newest one I have now per my request. Not but an hour after I had it, the Mac woke up from sleep. I was tempted to take it back again to get a fifth one but decided to reformat and reinstall the OS once again.

Since doing this, the Mac has not woke up once. I have been very slow to install everything back like I did the first time I did a reformat and reinstall. I've basically been taking baby steps with software/hardware installs to see if I can figure out exactly what is causing the Mac to exhibit this sleep issue.

At this point, the only thing I have not done compared to the last three MacBook Pro's is plug in my USB mouse and connect my Bluetooth keyboard. Both of these devices would obviously be dealing with the USB bus which would explain the Wake reason OHC2.

I guess at this point the next step would be to plug in my USB mouse and see if the sleep issue occurs. If not, the bluetooth keyboard is next. If everything seems fine, well then, I am completely stumped.

Hi,

thought I would reply to this because it's important apple realise how many people have been affected. I have been having the exact same issue. What I have noticed is that if I leave my macbook sleeping in my room overnight it is fine, but if I carry it while it's sleeping it will wake itself up. I am thinking that maybe movement is what is waking the lappy up?

I think I've solved this problem on my computer by turning off "Allow Bluetooth to wake this computer" in the advanced settings of the Bluetooth control panel.

I found that I would sometimes put my computer to sleep (and then into my bag), and then accidently move my bluetooth mouse on my desk. This would "wake" the computer, even with the lid closed! The monitor would not turn on, but it appears as though everything else did.

Problem seems to be solved, but we'll see.

I had already installed Apple's most recent software update and am still having the problem with my 2-week old Pro's refusal to stay asleep. I've tested the sleep problem under a number of circumstances including the many good guesses presented so far in this post. I discovered the easiest way to determine if a potential solution is working is to simply select the "sleep" function under the Apple menu. There's no need to close the screen... just wait about 15 seconds and Mac will wake right back up all bright-eyed from its brief nap and ready to get back to work.
