Sleep Issue - New MacBook Pro

Just picked up a new MacBook Pro last night. Seems like a very nice machine (coming from a rev B, 1st gen MBP). An oddity, though. When closing the lid to put it in sleep mode it seems to awaken for a few seconds every 45 seconds. There will be an audible bzz-bzzzt (as if the hard drive spun briefly), then the apple logo light built into the lid illuminates for a few seconds. It then extinguishes and 45 seconds later the pattern repeats.

I'm not seeing anything in Energy Saver settings to tweak for this. Any ideas?

I'm having very similar issues to other users in this thread. I've got Macbook Pro this monday, used migration assistant to restore the settings from my Time Machine drive from my old 2nd gen Macbook. I took to to class this morning (in sleep mode) in my backpack and sleeve, then when i removed it from it the it was very hot, fans churning inside the sleeve. When I opened it, the system was on but the display did not turn and restart the machine manually. I didn't notice it having any issues sleeping when it's on my desk. I do have a bluetooth mighty mouse and I also use several USB hard drives. I hope they fix this soon, otherwise I'll just get a normal macbook if doesn't have any sleep issues. I bought my machine in the Netherlands btw, so its not only US Macbook Pro's that have issues..

I had the same issue. And I had my bluetooth off. So I called apple care and they told me this:

1.-Turn off your Mac.
2.- Remove the battery and unplug the power cord
3.- Now, press down the power button and leave it press for 15 seconds
4.-Put back the battery and plug in the power button
5.-Turn your mac while pressing the following button combination: command option+PR.
6.- Leave them press until the computer restarts 3 times. Keep the buttons pressed until you hear the third time it starts up.

This is to reset the memory and the controller chip. This, so far has worked for me! I hope it can work for you!

Same problem here. I've only seen it when I've put the thing in a bag. Must do some more tests.

HOWEVER

I'm concerned that many of our systems are being irredemably wounded by the heat when in a bag. If our MBPs start dying (esp. HDDs) before their normal lifespan, it'll be too late to do anything about it.

No wonder AppleCare for MBPs is so expensive!

help!!!!!!!!!!!!

my new macbook pro does the exact same thing!

I close the lid, and it ends up turning back on within 30 seconds or so. Then it turns off, then turns back on again. OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

Is there a fix for this??????

My Macbook sleeps,(I think )but sometimes does NOT wake up from sleep.
I have read on MacFixit that the solution IS to check "Bluetooth to wake from sleep".
Yet here I read that option should be deselected.
Which way is it?

PS. i leave my MBP plugged in all the time so I do not experience a power drain.
The non waking up has only happened twice, after overnight .
I hard reboot my MBP and all is well.

Well, just when I thought the problem was gone for good, it happened again this evening. Here is the breakdown:

At 6:20PM, I ejected my external hard drive and put the Mac to sleep by closing the lid. It was sitting on my desk and the power cord was plugged in.

At 8:49PM, I disconnected the power cord and put the Mac into my backpack to head to the coffee shop.

At 9:10PM, I get to the coffee shop and take out my Mac. It's hot and the fans are going. The sleep light is not pulsating and when I open the lid, the screen is black. I had to hard reset it to get it back up and running.

I checked the console logs and again, the wake reason is the infamous OHC2. This time though it actually had another piece of information that I have not seen before...Check this out:

11/14/08 8:50:29 PM kernel USB (OHCI):Port 1 on bus 0x6 has remote wakeup from some device

This has got to be some type of bug in the software I would imagine. I had NOTHING plugged into my Mac, which has always been the case when it wakes up from sleep, yet it thinks "some device" caused it to wake up.

Come on Apple. This is seriously frustrating. We need a fix NOW.

I've had this new MBP 15.4 for less than a week and the same problems as everyone else here with not wanting to wake up after going to sleep. Sometimes it will and sometimes it won't. I've tried all the solutions in the threads above and nothing helps. It had this problem from the start. No other programs loaded, no migration from anywhere, no peripherals plugged in! Even after a shutdown it is hard to start. The start button needs to be held several seconds usually, and even then it may not always start. Sometimes pushing the battery test button helps, or plugging in the power supply.

It will be like the display problem with the aluminum 24" iMac last year. No acknowledgement from Apple and then miraculously one day a month later there was a firmware update that cured the problem with the display card. The iMac last year and now the Macbook Pro are the first Mac's for me and both had major problems out of the starting gate. That's what I get for believing the TV ads!

now that is different. The problem i had is that I wouldnt stay in sleep mode. it kept on waking up every time it went to sleep! and sometimes, it didnt wake up! but, I was using the mouse instead of the keyboard to wake it up!

The good thing is that this doesnt happen to me anymore... maybe I was lucky but, resetting the power chip and the pram really worked for me! maybe if i didnt work for you, you should contact with apple care!

It's definitely OS X related and not hardware....I've been running my new MBP 2.4 under Windows for about a week (using 3DSMax) and not once have I had a problem with either battery drain or sleep mode. Every time it wakes on demand with minimal battery drain. Obviously XP does not manage the power system at all so it's a good indicator the problem lies within OS X and it's power management.

The moment I boot into OS X 10.5.5 and close the lid, I get the same issue, irrespective of all the "fixes" listed here. Incidentally, I never had any problem with Tiger, just Leopard.
