Apps closing immediately after opening

Running the iPhone, and getting fairly aggravated that many apps work fine for days, and then all of a sudden for a few days they don't open, until magically the problem is fixed. When I select an app, it opens to the main screen, and then fades away to the home screen. I checked the forums and couldn't find anything really helpful. I've tried resetting the phone, and the problem persists.

Any smart folks out there to answer this one?

Hello-

I've had this problem for about a week as well. All apps that were downloaded from the app store (e.g. anything that wasn't standard on the iPhone 3G at the time of purchase) are affected by this problem. I've tried rebooting the phone and the problem persists. The phone seems to have plenty of disk space and virtual memory, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Help!

Ditto. My wife and I have had the 3G for 6 weeks. We had the old iPhone from the very beginning also. No problems with apps whatsoever.

Yesterday, I came back from 3 days in Australia and not one single iPhone app will work on either of our phones. My wife said the problems started about 3 days ago on her phone.

Among others, the following apps will not load. NY Times,AP Media News, Mandarin, AIM (AOL IM), Pilot Wiz, Heat, Slate, French, Weather Bug ....

iTunes and App Store load and work fine. All icons that link to websites work fine, Safari works fine in all respects.

The only thing I can think of is that we both still have Op Sys 2.0.1 because neither of our Dell systems with Vista Business can download and/or install the new iPhone OS. Apple trouble shooters have given up trying to figure that one out.

All I know is that I love the iPhone but never had any of these problems with Treo or Blackberry phones. Based on all of the problems thoudands of users are having, something is fundamentally wrong with the iPhone OS and Apple isn't being straightforward or proactive in dealing with these issues.

Growing weary of the Apple "Alfred E. Newman - What Me Worry?" style of business. When something this big is wrong, just say so and state that Apple is working as fast as possible to rectify it. Keeping consumers in the dark is not a corporate trait worthy of anyone's respect.

OK, this is interesting. Problem went away after I tried something. Maybe the same troubleshooting will work for you.

I had tried warm boots and cold boots with no success. So, I decided to try deleting the Apps on the iPhone one at a time to see if the problem was one particular app. I started by depeting the last app which had done a free update just before I left for Australia. That app is iConvert, which I totally find perfect in all respects.

After deleting the iConvert app I tried initiating all the other Apps and none of them worked. No change. Then I decided to reboot and still no change - no Apps worked.

Then I decided to go to the App Store with the iPhone and re-download and install the same app - iConvert.

It installed on the first try and BOOM!!! every app started working again immediately upon the first try as if there was never a problem.

Curious whether the problem was iConvert and they fixed the new update over the last few days, or whether the OS is the culprit. Curious whether the problems will start again.

Hello,

I purchased the iPhone 3G four days ago, installed version 2.2 straight away but experienced the exact same problems here yesterday. I found that deleting and reinstalling any of the downloaded apps cured the problem but it happened again today.

As previously reported tho, preinstalled apps remain unaffected throughout. If it makes a difference, I downloaded all of my apps directly to my phone, not via my PC.
