Delivery from UPS -- when?

I've ordered things from Apple before and never paid the express shipping because they used FedEx and it was fast no matter what.

Well, I have a CTO 2.8 MBP on order since announcement day. It was shipped UPS! It scanned in China on Sunday, then showed up in Anchorage on Sunday, and I'm thinking great it'll be here by Tuesday. No such luck it hasn't moved from Anchorage yet, and no scans showed up yesterday or today.

I called UPS and they said it might take until Friday, even though Apple's delivery window was Monday to Thursday on my confirmation.

I guess they're slowing down all the shipments that didn't pay the additional $11.

Mine was also in AK on Sunday and it was delivered Monday morning to me in WI. I paid the $11 and got FedEX which is much faster than UPS for international shipments (I deal with both companies at work all day long, trust me on this).

There's no reason it should not get to you BY Friday the latest, even if Apple used the 'cheapo' international service.

Oh, I forgot to mention. Mine said it was in Alaska, as it was being delivered to me, LOL.

Sometimes the scanners just don't update especially if it's an international package. Also, it has to clear customs in Alaska and sometimes that could take more than a day. It's a headache shipping anything international nowadays, and the part of my job I despise.

I have exactly the same story. I have bought many BTOs direct from Apple. Whether I paid for the faster shipping or not didn't seem to make a difference (always overnight FedEx). Didn't pay the $11 this time - figuring it wouldn't make a difference. Ordered a CTO 2.8 MBP on the morning of the 14th. Looks like mine is on the same pallet as yours, languishing in Anchorage. No updates since Sunday afternoon. (That being said - with previous machines I have had the tracking say it was still in Alaska while unpacking the machine in question.) I'm hoping for Thursday.

We're on the same pallet. Now I have a new add:

LOUISVILLE, KY, US 10/22/2008 12:17 P.M. IMPORT SCAN

I spoke with UPS this morning. They said it was certain it would be delivered to me (Maryland) on Friday. Not before, not after. Friday exactly. They said it hadn't left Shanghai as of this morning, and said that the Anchorage scan was a pre-clearance, but it wasn't actually in Anchorage. It sat with UPS in Shanghai for three days. (UPS did confirm they took posession from Apple on Sunday.) They told me I would see a KY scan later today, and I did. They said I would see a few more China scans after that as part of customs. Haven't seen those yet.

I called Apple, since they had promised delivery by 10/23 (10/20-10/23 window). They said it would be there by 10/23, but they were not allowed to talk with UPS because of their contract with UPS. (They can't talk with UPS until there are documented nondeliveries.) They seemed to indicate I shouldn't trust UPS, but the UPS tracker I called in their international department seemed to really know her stuff.

I'm thoroughly dissatisfied, and never had this problem with FedEx. Things never sat in Shanghai for three days with FedEx. With FedEx, I would have seen it Monday, Tuesday at the latest.

Oh well. Guess Apple is trying to cut costs.

Yup. Mine also is purportedly in KY today, with a scheduled delivery for tomorrow. I hope it's true... 2-3 others on the same pallet on other forums (macrumors etc.) also have received the same notifications. If Apple is actually providing faster FedEx service for the $11, (as opposed to the past, where the $11 seemed to buy you very little) - then I'll probably cough up the $11 on a $2700 purchase just to avoid the silly package tracking weirdness and holding the packages several days in China in order to overnight it several days later that UPS seems to want to provide....

Got it today.

No dead pixels (ran a black white+red+greenblue check).

Fit and finish seems fine.

Only problem: The trackpad clicks smartly (I like that and I can tell that I've clicked it with audible and tactile feedback), but only 60% of the time does it actually result in a click! That's a problem. I'm going to take it to a Genius soon and see what they think. Bummer!
