Green and Orange flashing lights.. how many others effected?

I have a 1gb shuffle, apples web site tells me was registered on 18 April 2005 so i cant get comp support.

It worked fine until a few weeks ago when on hitting play I got no sound just the alternating flashing of the green and orange light. It had been standing a few days after a recharge from the front USB port of my Dual G5 Mac it was working when inserted and i pulled it out and put it aside fully charged until i needed to use it

I have read a number of threads on this topic not of which appear to have an answer to solve my problems

My iPod updater software is 4.4 although i also have 4.2
When i insert the iPod neither versions recognise the iPod as attached Ihave tested this on my G4 1.33 Al powerbook which has a lot older versions of the iPod updater and none of them confirm the iPod is connected.
Checking 'About this Mac', under the Apple menu the iPod is listed as attached to the fast USB port and gives a serial number 000A2700101BA8FE which is not the same as is written on the case.

I have been maintaining my 'software update' as current as is possible and I know I recently recall taking both upgrades to iTunes and an iPod updater which conicided with the nano and the video launch although i did not recall manually applying the new updater to the Shuffle but i believe with the shuffle iTunes may be able to manage upgrading shuffle firmware when it is connected without the users knowledge. It appears to have expired about the time these upgrades appeared. I am prepered to accept this may not be co-incidental.

Have Apple introduced a bug during the firmware upgrade to some or all iPod shuffles that kills them? Have Apple confirmed there is a problem? Will it be possible for a forthcoming firmware update to correct this issue? Has anyone had this problem arise during normal cycle of use without the shuffle being connected to its mother computer (mac or pc) immediatly prior to it first being a problem.

If anyone has experienced the same process and symptoms listed above occuring and killing their iPod Shuffle please drop you name here and any thing you noted. Likewise anyone who had these symptoms and found a way to force the shuffle to wake up and become visible to the computer any tips on this will be very welcome

thanks

I'm on my 3rd 1Gig shuffle as well. Same problem. No way to fix it. Seems to be related to connecting/disconnecting it, somehow.

I returned my first one to the retailer after 20 days or so. The second one lasted about 8 months. I just received the replacement. They've mistakenly billed me over $200 for it, and apparently, it might be 60 days before they return my funds!

The green-orange light thing started with me yesterday(1/13/06) while I was out. I don't remeber if I used it earlier in the day but it just stoped working before I put it in my computer. I've heard its about the new ipod software download. What are people doing about this? Is Apple going to do something about this because this is rediculous!

This is INSANE!!! I bought my shuffle last spring and was working fine until I thought it would be a good idea to download the updater 11 05 - since then, I get the flashing green/orange lights, it no longer plays and my PC will not recognize it. After spending COUNTLESS hours rebooting my machine, making sure I had all my windows updates installed, trying all the "5R's" on the support site, I'm placing this heap of junk in the trash. What a waste of money and a huge disappointment. Mr. Jobs - if you wanted us to pay more for one of your higher end iPods, you should have not put this product on the market - I was seriously considering switching from a Windows PC to a Mac and now I'm not buying another Apple product for a LONG time.

If anyone has figured out how to fix this piece of X&^(% and wants mine, let me know and I'll send it to you - I don't want to look at it anymore!

No fix but there is a solution. Don't send it to me, send it to Apple.

I phoned them and explained to problem and that it was still under warranty. Within 24 hours I had a new one delivered and return the dead one to them. All free of charge. Excellent service.

So as everyone else, the trouble (annoying flashing green status light!!!!!)began AFTER the lastest ipod/itunes update (11-17-05 I think). I purchased the apple extended warranty so Apple replaced the (supposedly) defective shuffle on 1-5-06 with a new shuffle(finally recieved on 1-20-06). All fine and dandy. I plug the new shuffle into my computer and bingo, the ANNOYING flashing green status light.....fricking again!. So I have concluded that the problem isn't with me or my computer system. The PROBLEM lies with iTunes/Apple Corporation. How the **** does one convince iTunes/Apple that there update for ipod/itunes is DEFECTIVE????!!!!! So folks, sorry to report, but getting a NEW shuffle won't cure the problem because the update software is defective. Thanks to the Goddess, I got my witts about me. I'm not the problem. Apple/itunes/ipod update IS THE PROBLEM!!!!! SO IF MILLIONS OF US FRUSTRATED SHUFFLE USERS OVERWHELM APPLE WITH PHONE CALLS ABOUT DEFECTIVE UPDATE, THEY MEANING APPLE MAY JUMP ON A FIX....IMMEDIATELY. IN THE MEANTIME, MILLIONS OF US WILL HAVE TO TWIDLE OR GO FOR A LONG RUN WITHOUT ANY HYPNOTIC TUNES. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.

Having been convinced that my daughter had somehow re-programmed it and after reading all these replies - it was with little confidence that I downloaded 'iPod Updater 2006-01-10' and used it to restore the Factory Settings (no others available) - I was then able to load tracks in the normal way and the Shuffle plays fine - fingers crossed it still will tomorrow! ; )

PowerBook 17" 1Ghz - too many others to mention! Mac OS X (10.4.3)

My niece won an IPOD Shuffle from her dentist. We were able to put some music on the IPOD, but now we can't get anything. Those lights are flashing and that is all that we get. It do charge up, but there is no music at all. I can't even register her IPOD on my computer. The bad thing about this is that I have 2 Mini IPOD's that work fine. I just need help with this one.

Can someone out there please help me to fix this IPOD? Is there a way that we can take it back some where do to it was a gift. I want to get my twins one, but it looks as if there will be problems.

If anyone has any answers please, please, please, please inform all of us that have no clue of what to do.

Thanks
