Wireless Keyboard Problems

Hey All, I have the original Wireless White Keyboard, and in the past few days when I turn my iMac on the Bluetooth Utility comes up and it says that there is no keyboard connected. And from there I have to turn the keyboard off and turn it back on and then it connects and everything works. It does this almost every time I turn my iMac On. Is there a fix, or should I just get a new Keyboard? Thanks in Advance! Josh

Hi Josh,

Have you tried re-pairing the keyboard to the Mac?

Setting up a wireless keyboard and mouse
You can set up an Apple wireless keyboard using Bluetooth Setup Assistant.

*Make sure the batteries are new and properly inserted in the keyboard* and the keyboard is turned on and discoverable. See the documentation that came with the keyboard and mouse for more information.

To use Bluetooth Setup Assistant:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Bluetooth.
Click Devices, and then click Set Up New Device.
Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your keyboard or mouse.

If you have replaced the batteries in a mouse that is paired with your computer, click the mouse to reconnect to it.

For more help using Bluetooth, click the Help button in the bottom-right corner of Bluetooth preferences.

Josh, my problems continue to come and go even with the new keyboard. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple Care and different techs. I have tried all the different things such as re-pairing, dumping preferences, repairing permissions, and much more. I had it working for awhile when I trashed the bluetooth setup for my mouse since I wasn't using it and that seemed to help for awhile. Now it is back to not pairing up when I start up, not everytime but enough and I can't type without it skipping a beat. I never had any problems for almost 3 years, then the logic board went bad, they put in two more logic boards and now I have trouble with the wireless keyboard and if I use Safari as my browser, it will crash the entire computer. I am not a happy mac user at the moment.

Hey Dave, Apple had me send in my old keyboard and they sent a new one (and they were quick to!) and so far it has been alright. It has come up once so far with the Bluetooth Utility saying it has not found a Keyboard. I have decided that if it comes up again, I will call Apple and see what they have to say next. Hope everything starts to work out on your end.

Something strange happened while trying to reinstall the keyboard for the umpteenth time-after typing in the pairing number instead of waiting for it to pair (and getting the error message) I hit the enter key while the ball was spinning and it paired. Could it be that simple? Worth a try.
