My iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop even though it is charging though the firewire. Can anyone help? I tried the steps recommended in the support section of Apple's website, but nothing changed.
I have the same problem as all of you here. my 40gb ipod without colour display isn't mounting on desktop/itunes.
I tried all the things in the support section, and i also tryied the install an older updater thing. (but it did not work at all! my problem was that my ipod appears in the software updater as connected but not mounted on desktop. because of that it is also not possible to 'update'. the only possiblity would be to reset but i really don't want to do that because i have lots of important data on my ipod.)
so.... am i to stupid to do the 'update' thing? i hope not,...and there still is a possiblity to safe my data.
you should be able to download a 3rd party program to make backups of your files on www.ipodlounge.com after that try restoring but if you get a pop up that says ipod disk does not have correct structure please restore than you have the same problem i do
My iPod had the same problem. I had to open iPod and re-solder the Firewire link. Afterwards I could use iPod again fully. For loading the accumulator not all 6 links are needed. For transfering data all are used.
I have been dealing with this issue for quite sometime, I am not a professional neither a technician, but I have experience to fix up around 10 different iPods during the past 1 year. I used to solve them as following:-
1. Reset
2. Restore
3. Changing USB or Firewire port
4. Force plug and replug the iPod with the computer
5. Have a full charge by AC charger
6. Drain the battery
7. Use my palm to hit on the back of the ipod
8. Put iPod in disk mode
However, I finally find a better way and better chance to fix this problem. Is to plug your Mac iPod with a PC or vince verse. Trust me when you put your iPod in disk mode and plug into a computer in this way, your iPod would got mount, then do a Restore (open the iPod updater and wait for few minutes). Once it has been completed, restore the iPod updater in the orginal version.
After reading this entire thread and trying several suggestions, I disconnected all firewire and USB cables, powered down and let the computer set for an hour. Reconnected all cables, powered up and put the iPod in the dock. iPod mounted on the desktop and in iTunes.
I have my iPod back!!!
Kudos to all in the Mac community who help each other.
