Screen turns black when gaming?

Hi guys, I bought a MacBook Pro 15" three days after they were released.. everything was going just fine until yesterday, when I was playing Call Of Duty 4, and suddenly my screen went black. I closed/opened the lid and still it was black, everything else was running just fine cause I could hear the game running through my speakers.. but the screen wouldnt turn back on no matter what. I had to use the power button to shut it down and get the screen back.

this happened like 4 times yesterday (all of them while gaming)

should I take it back to the store?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

has anyone with a build-to-order MBP gotten it replaced easily? I got the 2.8 GHz one and want to get it replaced if possible to try and get a properly functioning one...

I get the same thing if I am doing HD encoding. It doesn't always happen, but it's often enough that I avoid using my MBP if possible because I'm thinking it has to do with the heat

Got a similar problem on a new Macbook Pro 2.4 I received 2 weeks ago.
I get it when gaming on Windows playing COD4 😟

Update to my earlier post. Both MBPs were exactly the same in every detail on the HW Information.

I am positive that Apple will fix this issue in the next update to Leopard. It is software and fan handling, not hardware.

Well without getting my post deleted like the original one I posted I beg to differ on you. Now this is just unibody, old aluminum systems are bad. But I am sure the new unibody will be fixed soon.

Thanks for the info. MY MBP is expected to arrive tomorrow. I hope to post positive news but plan to put it through a thorough workout for a week.

What is a "SMC Reset"?

I got a BSOD just after the firmware updates in FlatOut 2 demo, and I had nothing connected in the USB ports or screen. Just the laptop and power.

Has anyone tested whether or not the BSOD occurs during professional app usage, such as Final Cut, Apple Motion, or anything else that requires video rendering?

nope.
still crashing.
got it home, played fallout3 for a couple hours, black screen/sound loop crash happened again.

oh well.
repair it is i guess..

the mbpro 17 inch graphics processor is still the 8600m, the nvidia 9600m is available only on mbp 15".
