Hello En deavour. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

If your Time Capsule (TC) is configured to be your Internet router, then you only need to do two things to allow access to it from the Internet:

o Using AirPort Utility, enable both the "Enable file sharing" and the "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port" options on the utility's Disks > File Sharing page.
o On the utility's Summary page, note the value of IP Address. This will be the TC's WAN-side IP address.

To access the TC from the Internet, use Finder's Connect to Server option and enter afp://TC's WAN-side IP address in the Server Address box, and then, click on Connect.

I have my TC connected to my BT Router via Ethernet cable, do I need to follow the same instruction as mentioned?

Not exactly. You won't be able to use the IP address listed in AirPort Utility as previously mentioned. Since your Time Capsule is running in bridged mode the IP address listed is its LAN-side (Private) address, which won't be seen from the Internet. To get the WAN-side (Public) IP address of the BT Router you can go to www.showmyip.com or use this router's administration feature to find it.

In addition, you will need to make sure that the BT Router's TCP port 548 is being forwarded to the TC's Private IP address. Again, you will have to use the BT Router's administration tools to set up port forwarding to the TC.

Hi Duane and everyone,

I dont see the option "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port" either....

I dont know if my time capsule is configured to act as a bridge.... My time capsule is connected to a router for internet connection and from there I have set up a wireless network to use internet wireless and to use time capsule as storage... Is this what you mean by that??

I have read all the entries on here but still cannot sort this out.

I have tried Finder > Go > Connect to Server > afp://xxx .... but it always gives me the error "The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again."

Can someone please help??

Thanks.

Sounds like your TC is set up in Bridge Mode. I assume that you can connect local to your TC. In order to connect to the external IP of your Router you need to enable NAT-loop back on your router.
Also you need to have a port forward rule enabled in your router pointing to the TC.
In your Finder does the TC show up under Shared when you are connected to your Network local?
