Final Cut Express 4 HD Log And Transfer Error

Hay

i have this error when trying to import video from my Sony HDR-SR7 in final cut express. In log and transfer i select a clip to import and for a while it looks as if it is in the status bar but then it stops and turns to a red exclamation bar and when hovered upon it says error: no data.

Ive tried searching this but i cant find anyone with this problem, could some one shed some light.

The videos is AVCHD And is using apples HDV- Intermediate Codec 1080i50 as i am in the pal region and the camera is set to pal i think.

Do you have this problem only with that clip?
It might be possible some sort of file corruption; check if you can import other clips.
Once all of your data are saved and ok, you can try deleting everything from the camera's HDD using the camera menu'.
If you still get into the point where some of your clips are unusable, try to re-format your camera's HDD using the camera function menu'.

On another note, you didn't say if you are saving the clips into an external disk or not (your scratch disk).
If you use an external disk, make sure is not formated in DOS FAT32, otherwise you will have problems saving files bigger than 2Gb.

Regards,
Armando.

Hi, I may have found the solution. I saw your message because I was having the same problem. I chased another similar forum discussion and another person told us about a different problem where he changed the audio selection from mixed to "plain stereo". I tried it for this problem and it worked. Not sure why, but it loaded the video clips. When you pull up the log and transfer screen, click on the small gear icon (top right). Go change the audio selection to "plain stereo" and hopefully it will work for you as well. good luck, Nazzzz

Hi all, hope someone is still checking this discussion out. I have a Sony HDR sr12, transfers to Imovie without a hitch, however, in FCE 4.0, while it will transfer the majority of my clips without issue, a few will always come up with the error message - Unknown error. I've tried restarting, reformatting, changing the stereo setting, no avail. It looks like it's loading the clip, I get the little red alert icon after painfully waiting for the clip to "download" again. Would appreciate any more ideas. Also, if no one can solve the problem, would someone be kind enough to explain how to import the troublesome clips from Imovie into FCE? THANKS!

I am having a similar problem. Using a Sony AVCHD camera I can view my clips in LOG & TRANSFER and even scroll through the clips in the preview screen. However, when i queue up a clip for importing, it will load the clip into the import pane, but not actually import the clip. I am pulling my hair out (and I am already bald so that's no mean feat!). Any suggestions please!!!

Does any anything happen when you try to import? Do you have the correct settings in the Log and Transfer preferences popup?

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime are you using

I have got the same problem. I can see all my AVCHD Files from my Sony HDR-CX6 (using Memory Sticks as media) connected via USB to my new MacBook Pro (4GB, 2,4 Ghz, latest updates for Leopard, FCE, iMovie, Quicktime) in iMovie 09 and Final Cut Express 4 in the Preview/ Log and Transfer Windows. I can play them, scroll through them and when i select one or more for import, the import process will begin and the progress bar will proceed to the end but then an error appears. In FCE it will simply be the red exclamation mark and in iMovie it will say "unable to import the clip".
I have tried a reset of the camera and set the audio to plain stereo. Nothing helped!

Hi Tom, I've tried resetting the FCE import settings to apple codex and the audio to plain stereo. Still will NOT import any clips over 6 minutes. I'm downloading to a Lacie scratch disk, says it has 137 gigs available. All shorter clips import fine.

The longer ones will download into Imovie, no problem, but when I import them over to FCE, it seems like the resolution isn't as fine - those clips show up in my view window as smaller than the ones directly imported into FCE from the camera.

Sorry to be so tech impaired, hope I'm using the correct terminology. I have a new I-mac with 10.5.5 , 3.06 ghz intel core 2 duo and 4 GB of memory. Newest version of FCE4. Camera is Sony SR12

THANKS

Same exact problem here. Brand new iMac (Well, brand new, last year's model, not the version that came out ... last week.), Sony SR-12. After some time, I also found the gear icon and changed that preference to Plain Stereo. No change in status. I still get the Exclamation stop sign and "Error: No Data" explanation. The machine is just as it came out of the box, with the latest software. I'd be saving the project to the hard drive, which has more than 200G available. Really pretty frustrating. Not bald YET, but my hat sure has some more crinkles and damage!
