How do I stretch text vertically?

In other programs, such as illustrator, it is very intuitive to figure out how to stretch text vertically. Can someone please shed some light? Thanks.

To one and all:

Interesting, is it not, how intellectual property rights are considered in different art disciplines. Photographers would not abide anyone tampering with their copyrighted photos, or artists with their paintings, but composers and playwrights not only allow, but expect the conductor or director or performer to add their own interpretations to their works.

We may easily find several variants of a given font.

Personally, I do not find it annoying either. I have, after all, worked with Mac OS X for eight years, and I'm used to it. But the lack of feedback (what is wrong, and what can I do about it?) when a new user presses cmd-I on a single typeface font is striking.

Ironically, Apple delivers 25 fonts with iWork, out of which only 4 have italic typefaces. In other words, one of the few software suites in the world that requires italic typefaces does not deliver them on more than a fraction of the bundled fonts.

Does it disturb me? No. Does it amaze me? Yes.

Have you already tested "Warnock Pro" delivered with the system ?
It's a clean Serif font with 32 variants.

You probably have a better system than I do. I only have access to Warnock Pro inside Adobe InDesign and other Adobe products. But yes, it is a very nice font.

I'm not really surprised. In AppleLand the information doesn't pass easily from one department to an other one.

Those who wrote the Help are not those who wrote the strings embedded in the program which are not those who designed the program itself and they are unaware of the others do. Given that, we have sometimes Help datas which don't match what the program is designed to do. So, it's not surprising that those who defined the set of fonts are unaware of the program specs. I didn't check recently but is this set of fonts different than the one delivered with AppleWorks?

It's because you left it in the Font folder dedicated to inDesign.
If you move it to a standard fonts folder, it will be available to every program.

And of course, if we aren't using inDesign, we may buy the font set.

Yes, I know. I just thought that when you wrote "Warnock Pro +delivered with the system+", that you meant that it came with Mac OS X somehow.
