I went to school the other day and the computers there detected a virus on my flash drive. I came home got Norton and scanned the computer. It found about 3 instances of some form of "hacktool." At the same time my computer had been running really slowly, and laggy. After this subsequent find my computer ran like normal, but it has come back. I get the warning at school the computer starts running slow, then I do a full system scan and it finds 3 instances. I just removed all of the program access rights from the firewall, I have sharing off... Not sure what else could be causing reinfection. Thankfully it's a mac, so i'm a vector rather than a victim... but its really annoying that my computer starts running like crap.
I am new to the apple's MacBook and when on myspace I received a popup warning saying that 'my p.c. may be infected with viruses that can slow down or delete information from my p.c..' Now should I be concerned by this popup or just discard it because it is from myspace. Note that this has only happened when I am on the myspace site.
Hi clifjayshafer: "What should I do? Please help me?
Best advice, Ignore it. If you took notice of the pop-up, it most likely showed various "Windoze" files: .EXE, .DLL type files. These are strictly windows files.
First, you should start you own thread instead of hijacking this one. Second, ignore it as it was just a stupid popup ad attempting to fool you into installing malware onto your computer.
I haven't used NAV, but I have read that not only does it cause more problems than it solves, it is also a booger to remove. Even though you think you have uninstalled it, it's still there.
If it is phoning home, Little Snitch will tell you what is trying to get an outbound connection.
If it is driving the computer that hard, you should be able to see it in Activity Monitor sorted by CPU% (or top in the Terminal).
