Can Finder sort by extension instead of "kind"?

I have repeatedly run into the annoyance of looking through a crowded folder for a particular file of a known extension, but because Finder sorts by "Text document" instead of ".txt" or ".cfg" (for example), I run into files that are known to be extraneous, complicating my search for the right file. Can Finder sort it out the way I want it?

While I have never tried to sort by extension, you can limit your search to an extension. I find myself wanting to examine only .pdf files, for example.

A simple method is to add the extension to the search criteria (space + ext) "my files .txt" . You can also click on the "+" sign and add criteria "file extension is" "txt"

Perhaps some of this will help.

Are you aware this is the Leopard forum? Tiger Finder may be different.
