Roaches in my Imac (literally)...

I recently purchased a 24 inch imac online (refurbished) from an Apple Authorized Dealer. I recieved my Imac the following day via Fed Ex.
I unpacked my Imac and was eager to get it set up. I noticed a bug crawling around inside the box.
I thought "no big deal"
I got everything hooked up, and as i was setting up OS X, a bug was crawling on my hand.
It startled me and i slapped it off my hand. Looking at the front of my imac, i noticed two more crawling by the Apple logo. I tilted the computer up a bit and another one crawled out of the little vent holes underneath.
I quickly called the distributor i purchased it from. The sales person had assured me that their facility is roach free and never heard of anything like this. The Manager prompted me to contact Apple since the imac i purchased was refurbished by Apple.
I called Apple twice now (going for a third time tomorrow) only to be put on hold for an hour plus with no answers. The distributor will not take back the computer.

I have a three year old and a newborn. I have to use my imac in the garage to keep my children safe from the pests

Has anyone out there experienced anything like this? Any ideas what i can do?

Hey!

Apparently they can spread Salmonella (the local Pest control man informed me here at work!).
Though just the thought of 1 spawning upwards of 15 nymph at a time is enough for me!
I'd be insisting on a replacement,due to a bug,literally.
Cheers,
John

Call AppleCare immediately you have 14 days from the time you purchase to return your machine. The phone number for this is:

1-800-275-2273

If you don't get complete resolution on the first call then call back and get another operator or request to speak to the supervisor on duty. Obviously this is an unusual situation so the first operator you got to probably just did not know how to deal with it. Being calm, pleasant and persistent usually are the keys to getting customer service issues taken care of.

Absolutely agree with you on this.
The boric acid (purchase at any good hardware store) must be laid in a good 1"thick X 1/2" height X whatever the distance is around your work area/computer in order to be effective. MAKE CERTAIN no dogs or cats have access to this: I LOST my beloved Siamese a year ago because he 'checked it out' and ingested enough to be lethal. He had a fondness for non-dairy powdered coffee creamer, and daily jonesed for his 'fix' of the stuff. I'm sure he thought the boric acid looked like the 'real thing'... ;-(
But it DOES effectively kill the roaches, once they've crossed it (and they WILL: they'd rather check out your home and kitchen than stay in your iMac now), although it's a process that may take a day or two (the boric acid will disable their respiratory system, basically strangling/suffocating them).
Putting your iMac in the garage IS NOT keeping you or your children safe from the pests!!! Your biggest mistake will be thinking they plan on staying in your iMac!
They may have got to your house in that 'vehicle', but they will scatter to all corners of your home to set up new digs if not PREVENTED and taken care of NOW, at the SOURCE!

Good luck.
Personally, I would have shipped the iMac RIGHT to the OFFICE address of those it was purchased from (let THEM deal with the critters, in THEIR office space, for a few days so they'd get my message!) ALONG with a formal LETTER describing the unsatisfactory CONDITION in which it was received, and DEMAND A FULL REFUND.
You might have to pursue this legally, to get reimbursed, but you WILL, in time, get your money back.

Not for one minute would I allow or accept ANYTHING into my home that was 'infested'.

Oh, and to 'Roam": in America, Cockroaches are determined (on scientific research and EVIDENCE) to be filthy, germ-carrying pests worthy of the USA's top ten list of HEALTH HAZARDS (along with rats, etc.).
They will crawl into your BED and nibble the dry skin from your legs, the drool from your lips, the dandruff in your hair, all while you are blissfully sleeping, depositing myriad germs and bacteria in their wake.
They are NOT to be tolerated one iota IN A HOME or dwelling with humans, PERIOD.

Just so you know. 🙂
