Macbook Pro to Samsung LCD TV

I'm trying to hook up a MacBook Pro to a Samsung LCD TV (Model: LE40A656A1FXXU) but when I connected it up the message on the screen was something along the lines of 'mode not supported'. Can someone tell me what I need to do? Currently I'm using the external monitor connection on the MacBook Pro to the PC input of the TV.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Connect the TV and then open System Preferences/Displays/Samsung TV

Make sure the Refresh Rate is set at 60 Hertz (NTSC) then click the Options Tab and make sure 'Overscan' is checked, this should then get you an image showing on the TV. Play about with the Resolution setting to get one that looks best for you.

Hi,
So i just bought a LCD Samsung display (LE46A552) this week end. It's a 46" and is supposed to display 1080p (that's why i bought it). In the samsung user guide they say the optimal res is 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz. When i plugged it to my MBP with a vga cable it appeared that it doesn't work, the tv saying the well known "mode not supported". Until now everything is normal considering a samsung lcd display 😉. So i reduced my res to 1600 and started to get really sad. But later in the evening i checked again my display preferences in the menu bar and i was able to select 1920x1080 @ 59.9 Hz witch worked perfectly. Today i bought a longer vga cable so i replugged the new one and then same problem : the mbp does not let me set my refresh rate to 59.9 Hz and the 60 Hz still does not work. I can only see a few possibilities, the only things i did before 1920x1080 @ 59.9 Hz worked are :
- unplugged the alimentation during sometime (maybe an hour)
- my mbp went to sleep a few times
- i watched a movie
- or something i don't know or don't remember
I red in other posts that it has worked by unplugging the alimentation or by asleep the computer with a hot spot but it seems a bit strange! So if anyone has an idea or something to say to comfort me (like don't worry there will be an update..) i would be very pleased.

Cheers,
Robin

So i found what was the matter. As i said in my previous post the highest resolution (1920x1080 @ 60Hz) wasn't supported by one of my two vga cables. So i checked what could be the difference between the two. Except the fact that the second one witch didn't work is 10m long and the first that worked is 1m long (that's not a problem if you do have good quality cables) there was an other difference. It appears that the one not working has 14 output pins whereas the one working has 15 output pins. To put some names on this, a vga cable with :
-14 pins is a SVGA (super VGA) or the new generation of vga
-15 pins is a VGA (standard vga)
So a computer bought a few years ago (i bought mine in 2006) were build to be used with the old vga cables (15 pins). Finally this solution is applicable for the macs build before the last mac version:

If you do experience problems to display a res of 1920x1080 @ 60Hz on a external LCD display by VGA with a mac build between 2006 and the release of the last unibody macs do watch out for the number of pins on your VGA cable.

PS :

-my new cable (VGA old version) is now 15m long and works smoothly.

-In fact the LCD display does not support 60 Hz but 59.9 Hz (quite the same)

-I don't know if this solution only applies on a LCD Samsung

-When my display let me set 59.9 Hz of refresh rate my display preferences window is called "SAMSUNG" wheres it won't let me it's called "VGA DISPLAY" (might be a clue...)

Not just the MacBook, but all Macs: I've tried my MacMin, and a G5 iMac.
As far as I can see, the Samsung TV is sending a signal to tell the Macs to use a 60Hz signal, but will only work with a 59.9Hz connection for VGA. This is written in the manual (59.9Hz via VGA, 60Hz via HDMI).
The problem is with the Samsung firmware, not the Mac
Now why it should work with Windows machines I have only vague ideas.

I get a good signal when I tell the iMac to use a 59.9Hz refesh. Unfortunately I have no idea where these preferences are stored so I can't try it on my Mac Mini with only one display port 😟

Brand New Samsung 32'' 1080
MBP 17'' 10.5.8

Mini DVI --> DVI adapter -- HDMI cable.

I plug it into the TV and the MBP "flinches" with turning the screen blue a couple times and then nothing. No Detection, the TV detects and input into the HDMI port but "Check Signal cable" or " No Signal"

Is display preferences the MBP wont even give me a Samsung Display to change the GHz if needed.

This same set up worked most of the time for a Sony Bravia .
Downloaded the Mini DV VGA update and didn't work.

Is this an OS problem ?

I had similar issues with a new 23" SynchMaster T2333HD. I kept getting the "check input signal" message on the monitor, and the "PC" input source could not be selected when my MacBook (unibody) was connected.

HERE'S THE SOLUTION:
Install the Firmware update for Mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapters from here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_FirmwareUpdate

This fixed all connection issues. HOWEVER now I have a new issue: The screen on the T2333 has a massive black area on the left, around 4" or so. Also, there is what looks like a Moiré. The image quality is overall pretty bad. Has anyone seen this before? In desperation, I tried playing around with SwitchResX, to see if I can find a combination of setting that work, but no luck so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, I'm a tad confused...

I have a 2009 MBP and a Samsung LE37A559. I want to connect my MBP to the TV and have a VGA to DVI adapter and a DVI to HDMI cable running into the TV.

I attached it last night to see if I could get it to work through the source channels, but got nothing.

What do I need to do next?

When I looked at the settings, the HDMI channels weren't showing so I'm assuming it's a bit more that just plug and play...

Tengo el mismo problema. Mi televisor no reconoce a mi computadora.
