24-in monitors, HP vs. Samsung

I have a new MBP, and am looking for a 24-in monitor, preferably in the $500 range. I'm considering the HP w2408h, and two Samsungs - the T240 and the T240HD. If anyone has any firsthand knowledge of these, I would appreciate it. I'm concerned that the T240 seems to need third-party software to work, and I'm curious if the same applies to the T240HD.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I just purchased the HP w2408h. I'm pretty happy with it. Any time you are accustomed to an Apple display you will be disappointed with anything else. It's no Cinema Display, but it's a good monitor. In my case I have a MacBook Pro thats 1 1/2 years old and I just got a new MBP with the LED and glass. I have my new one sitting right next to my new HP w2408h. There's a BIG difference! However, my HP will work great for what I'm using it for. Mainly music production, and some photo/video editing.

By the way... I was shocked to find no DVI input on the monitor. There is however an HDMI. A $40 cord took my DVI and converted it to HDMI.

I think the HP is a great choice for the casual audio/video/photo buff. Things are crisp, and vibrant... a little too vibrant. The colors are definitely way over-saturated when you pull it out of the box. I've been fiddling with it for about 10 minutes now and am getting it dialed in.

I'd love to hear if anyone else has purchased one of these, and if you have, could you share your settings with the rest of us? (color/contrast/brightness, etc...)

Thanks!!

I just purchased the HP w2408h to plug my MBP into since my 17 inch studio display died after 5 years.
I am totally frustrated--I consider myself techno savvy but could not figure out how to get the base to work--no instructions at all. Then I popped in the CD and nothing worked since it was all PC.
Nothing on line either. Is this really plug and play? I boxed it back up and may go back to apple --spend more but no hassles
what am I doing wrong with the set up? Can I just connect to my MCP with a DVI to VGA adaptor?
