Firewire problem - Tascam FW 1884 & FCP

Hello, I hope someone can help me.

Im working on a latest new Imac runing latest updated Final cut studio 2. I´ve resently bought a Tascam FW 1884 interface to control the audio of my aundio and video projects.

The mixer-controller functions seem to work fine in logic, cubase, soundtrack. BUT, As i open any FCP project or just a few seconds after, the FIREWIRE led on the mixer-controller turns off, loosing my audio outputs as well as controller options. The soun mixer looses firewire conectivity.

I have to turn off, and on again and wait few secs fot it to recognize it again, but again after few secs connection gets lost.

I´ve read all the post related in the forum but not this specific case.
I´ve checked and installed the latest uptdates on both FCP and tascam. I´ve followed the setup intructions in tascam page (under FW1082), but still crashes.

Please someone has had this experience?????

thanks a lot for the replies.

Hello to all,

I finally got a very good solution,

The issue with the imac FW busses is solved. Aparently while connecting the TAscam FW 1884 trough the FW400 port and a Lacie HD trough the FW800 buss, they conflicted resulting on a FW sincro lost with the TAscam.

In order to work with both, the tascam as well as a External FW HD you should NOT connect the HD directly to the imac´s port. You should rather plug the HD into the Tascam FW 1884 auxiliary FW bus (this mixer has 2 Firewire busses).

This way you can both work with files on an external HD and at the same time use the tascam for Both Audio montoring and Control Surface.

The case is solved, Good luck to all.!

I have been dealing with my fireone dropping connection after an hour of post in fcp working with an external HD. In looking at this forum i thought the firewire port was my issue, until I disconnected the HD and after listening to iTunes for a while I lost firewire connection again to the Tascam Fireone.

So i am hoping that maybe the problem lies in the actual unit. Speaking of which, I have never even seen the jog wheel LED's light up.

But i guess my question to you: Even with a new unit you are suggesting that I wont be able to edit off an external HD through F800 with the Fireone connected to F400 w/ ac power?

I have also a Tascam control surface/mixer.
To solve al my FW trouble I placed a FW card in my MacPro with 2 FW800 and 2 FW400 busses.
I use only the MacPro FW for the Tascam.
Both Tascam and Apple should look at there design. Apple for use the same bus for all the firewire connections and Tascam (Teac) for bringen down the FW when connected to there control surface/mixers
