Replacement Ipod won't connect or restore

The first thing I did when the replacement Ipod came was charged it up. Then installed the latest softer onto my computer. Then tried to restore the Ipod to make it compatible with Windows and it wouldn't work. The error message said that Ipod is already being used. So I quit some programs and tried again. This time my computer didn't recognize the Ipod. The Ipod was just charging, the "Do Not Disconnect" screen didn't appear. I've tried restarting and resetting but it won't connect. I've tried with another computer and it wouldn't connect there either. What happened? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Wade,

The fact that it won't connect to another computer either leads me to believe it may be a cable problem. Do you know anyone else with an iPod whose USB cable you could borrow or test it on their computer with their cable? You want it to say Do Not Disconnect. If that doesn't workand you've read through the above link then post back 🙂

I'm having an identical problem. The iPod was originally formatted for Mac so I try to run updater to UPDATE and RESTORE. UPDATE tells me that I am currently running the proper software. RESTORE fails and return's the "can't lock ipod" error. I have read through http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301305
about a zillion times and it's still no good. My iPod now shows the folder with exclamation mark icon and nothing else. I have installed and uninstalled multiple versions of Updater and iTunes. My PC only recognizes the iPod as a hard drive now. The iPod is completely blank (no menus, playlists etc.). My USB cable is working. HELP!
