Does the Alpine CDA-9884 + KCE-422i charge an iPhone 3G?

I'm under the impression (judging by what I've read elsewhere) that the KCE-422i will allow the head unit to control and interface with an iPhone 3G, but will it charge it?

The reason I ask is because this thread seems to indicate the previous generation of that deck (CDE-9874) with the same cable would NOT charge it.

...new deck, but the same connector cable - which is why I'm hesitant without knowing for sure.

I contacted Alpine tech support and no, this deck/cable will not charge an iPhone, though everything else works just fine (bluetooth adapter, ipod controls, etc).

The iDA-X200 and iDA-X100 will charge the iPhone however.
