Toast Burning Problems

I had no problems until this new Mac. Roxio's support is horrible, so I'm trying here.

Mac OS X 10.5.5
Toast 8.0.4
I have burned a DVD+R just fine with Toast. A few days later I tried a DVD-R with the same data in the same method. When the burn starts, it just sits on 'preparing' and freezes up the computer when I force quit, etc. Burning through other applications (like iDVD) works just fine.

The drive's firmware is up to date
I have trashed the application and preference files, run disk utilities to fix disk permissions and reinstalled.
I am still having the same problem

Any thoughts?

Any of you guys try running the update to 9.0.4 that came out today? It might fix ya'll's problems. But I have v8, so I don't see a software update in my future and your problems seem to be a slightly different flavor than mine. Can you explain what's happening exactly?

I do not think it's the media (re 4x disks) I can burn in iDVD, but not in Toast. It's not a random issue in Toast either, it happens every time.

I have Toast updated to the latest version (8.0.4).

If I use Disk Utility, I can burn on 8x TDK DVD+Rs and 8x no-name DVD-Rs consistently. No errors.

If I use Toast, I can only burn the TDK +Rs. The program hangs with the -Rs.

No matter what program I use, I cannot write to Cicero 4x DVD+Rs. I get a hardware error (0x09, lost track). This happens with the new machine, but all my previous Macs can write to it.

I doubt that an upgrade will solve the 4x problem - it must be the burner. But I hope that it will solve the -R problem.

Update - Cicero DVDs work if I burn them at 2.4x. I now see this is a media problem only. The only thing that remains is that Roxio hangs when I try to record DVD-Rs.

However, the new 9.0.4 update may solve the problem - if anyone can confirm that (they had the problem, they upgraded, problem solved) then I'll be all set...

Definitely this was not a hardware problem, which really boosts my confidence as an early adopter :)!

ok i upgraded successfully to the newest 9.0.4 and still having the same problem (which i assumed would be the case) seems like every new release has bugs in it untill the patches come out. i really hope apple releases some major firmware driver patches to fix all the problems everyone is having as there is a soon upcomming firmware update 10.5.6 (it cant come soon enough)
