Toast Burning Problems

I had no problems until this new Mac. Roxio's support is horrible, so I'm trying here.

Mac OS X 10.5.5
Toast 8.0.4
I have burned a DVD+R just fine with Toast. A few days later I tried a DVD-R with the same data in the same method. When the burn starts, it just sits on 'preparing' and freezes up the computer when I force quit, etc. Burning through other applications (like iDVD) works just fine.

The drive's firmware is up to date
I have trashed the application and preference files, run disk utilities to fix disk permissions and reinstalled.
I am still having the same problem

Any thoughts?

I know this is topic is in Mac Book Pro, but I have same problem with Mac Pro. Maybe there's a similarity that will help us all.

When I use Toast 9.0.4 with 10.5.6 about 50% of the time I have to force shut down my Mac Pro. Toast will not quit or force quit. After attempting to force quit, I get the message stating "The application Toast has unexpectedly quit". (It hasn't fully quit tho)

It won't relaunch, the glow under Toast in the dock is still there, activity monitor does not show it as running, but then the computer partially stops working. I cannot eject or unmount any mounted disk images or actual discs. I can open and use Safari, and a few other programs as if nothing were wrong.

Shut down and restart menu commands will not restart the computer. Desktop stuff goes away, but no shutdown or restart. I wait 5 minutes and hold the start button until quit.

Starting up puts everything right for awhile. Disk utility shows no problems.

I have archived and installed 10.5.6 and it does the exact same thing!!! Plus, I absolutely cannot get the media eject key to open the DVD tray!! Somehow all this is VERY related!

I have the 9.0.4 update, and X.5.6, and find that Toast is a drama queen when it comes to actually burning stuff. The best results come from restarting the computer, and then loading Toast only. BTW, I have a Macbook, but didn't feel the need to start a new thread about the same thing.

The above website is good for finding media that will actually work. I wish I had seen this before spending money on the JVC/Victor brand. They will not burn for any reason! I've had excellent results with Mitsubishi, and will also try the Taiyo Yuden. I have made a coaster though out of a Mitsubishi because I disturbed Toast while it was working.

Sad really that nobody will make disc burning software that does the same things as Toast, and do it better.
