1st generation 20GB IPOD

I'm new to ipod & using old version without dock for first time. I connected 6 pin firewire cable and 6 pin to 4pin adapter & then 4 pin to USB cable in Windows PC, but connection didn't work. Any suggestions? Where can I find 6 pin firewire to USB cABLE ?

There is no such animal. You must firewire with the 1st generation iPod.

If you have a open PCI slot in the computer, wisely invest in the Adaptec 4300 firewire card. And you will likely have none of the troubles found in the forums concerning USB and the iPod.

or, in other words.. the answer to your question 'how do you connect to a PC with only USB?" the answer is: you can'., not with a 1st generation.
There was no 20gb 1st gen tho. It must be 2nd gen, which still can not connect via USB.
Charlie's suggestion is best.
