Black Soot

Hello,

I have been doing quite a lot of compiling on my MBP recently and it has been running very hot. I noticed a dark area on the screen frame on the bottom right developing over time. I kept assuming it was just a shadow but I took a closer look the other day and it is black soot.

I did a forum search which yielded nothing so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. My MBP is about 8 months old, its already had a new top case, new power supply and various other faults. Not sure I can face yet another trip into Milton Keynes for see a "genius" :'(

Cheers,

Jo

I've got black soot on mine as well! It was the 1st time that I've saw the back of my MBP in 20 months. My MBP is working fine, apart from battery replacement No.3 in 20 months.

I don't think you've got much to worry about, as I've seen this on many other computers, near the fans. There's a fan near the bottom right of the MBP, so hence the dirty air flow trails. It should rubs off fairly easily.

I'm sure there is a fault with your battery. With my previous 2, the health were around 56%, with 35 charge cycles in 8 months - Apple replaced it. Then the 2nd replacement: health round 40%, with 49 charge cycles in 10 months - Apple replaced it again (as a goodwill this time).

Now on battery No.3, in less than 1 week, health dropped to 98%, 2 cycles (doesnt look too good already)

Good luck with your.
