I've noticed that when I open my MBP, the screen always has some very tiny smudge marks on the screen. I have to assume that they are coming from the keys touching the screen. A quick wipe and they are going, but boy are they annoying. Anybody else experiencing this?

i have this problem too. i am worried it will permanently scratch the screen after some time.
Go here. Marware has a product that I use to prevent this.

That is a disappointing design flaw. It's made worse by the glossy screen. (I don't mind the glossy screen at all as I used for for 4 years.) It's my understanding that this used to be an issue with older Apple laptops and then they corrected it. A step back now I guess.
I haven't tried it, however I remember a few threads about the Marware pad eventually buffing permanent marks into the screen. The new glass screen may prevent that though.

Don't be worried. I've owned several PowerBooks/MacBook Pros and these marks are usually just finger oils transferred to the screen. They are not actual damage to the screen. I have always - always - been able to remove them with a simple cloth and maybe a little water or breathing on the screen.
I just looked at this early 2008 MacBook Pro screen and I don't even see key marks in it. I think it's because I started using a second foam sleeve in my bag. The marks are far more likely to occur if you jam it in a bag full of other stuff so that the lid gets compressed against the screen during transport, which is just not good for about ten reasons other than some screen marks.
I haven't seen the new MacBook Pros but if the screen really is covered by glass, then there should be even less chance of a permanent problem because glass is harder and much more scratch-resistant than the plastic of these older screens.
It also helps to be pretty disciplined about typing with clean fingers; if you're eating always wiping fingers before typing. I've seen some pretty gross looking laptop keyboards out there and mine's a lot cleaner, so there is less to transfer onto the screen to start with.
Yep, noticed it several times now - a bit weird - seems almost water like; worried that it is more like condensation than finger oil; especially concerning given the new water/moisture indicators in the laptop.
New Macbook Pro late 2008 - I am also experiencing keyboard marks on the screen. The corner of the keys are marking the screen.
I think you'll find that it's very common on just about every notebook out there. Having glass just makes it easier to clean (and more obvious unfortunately).
Yes, I'm also experiencing this with my new late 2008 MBP. My experience with my old Blackbook was that these marks did become permanent - so I'd love to find a way they could be avoided.
It won't be permanent on glass. Think about it. You can get anything off of glass unless you scratch it. Grease is grease.
What I'd worry about is your space bar. After a few weeks of use you will wear off the left side of the bar.

I am now using my two black Apple cleaning cloths to lay over my Pro keyboard when I shut it - no more smudges etc
Same here...I started noticing the marks a couple of weeks or so ago. Funny, because I've owned several MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops and never had an issue before with this. I have a microfiber cloth that I can lay over the keys when closed, but I hook up to the LED cinema display often and I worry that having the keys covered will cause over heating...anybody know?
Keyboard smudging screen when closed.
