80 gb Ipod, SMART DATA error

My Ipod is absolutely dead. I was wondering if there is any way I could get it working, here is the problem.

1. It does not work with Itunes, yes I have restored it, yes I have tried another computer, yes I charged it all the way, yes I drained it all the way, yes I have done almost everything in the world to it.

2. I cannot format it in Windows because " the disk is not able to be formatted ". I was going to format FAT32, then restore.

3. I was running diagnostics, and under Hard Drive -> HDSMARTData it said I have an error.

My ipod makes skipping noises once in a while, and I was wondering if this is physical damage or not.

It is formatted for windows..at some point.

Also, when I tried restoring it, sometimes I can get A song to work, other times not. When I restore it, sometimes the menu is invisible, and sometimes it works fine. It is also sometimes not erasing my library, then other times it comes back, but i never resync.

Please Help Me.

Oh, and my warranty is expired, so I dont mind using this as a guinea pig.

INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT!!

Somehow, my Ipod started working on its own, I think it's because of fiddling with it yesterday. It is no longer in "recovery" mode, it is now just "corrupted". However, when I attempt to restore I get ( 1439 )-The one that needs to have the drivers resigned -. The Ipod allowed me to select a language, and the menu works fine. When I ejected, the Ipod had a black screen, with a loading bar and the apple logo, then reset itself. This is a very good development.

Any idea to \carry from here?

I couldn't restore, or format even in this stage. Every attempt at restoring seems to work, I get the default Ipod games, which crash when used, causing the Ipod to restart and have me choose a language again ( the language between french and italian is missing ). The ipod says it has 0kb free, but the bar is not full. Would formatting with a Mac help, or is this thing toast?

I cannot restore, and it says I have to restore for it to sync. I think I should downgrade my firmware, because it is messed up on my Ipod.

I dont know though.

Chkdsk says its RAW, and it doesn't support RAW.

The games crash, and it doesn't work with Itunes.

I think we can probably assume the drive is toast. Compare the number of reallocs with mine above, plus the fact that it still has pending sectors to remap would suggest that the drive is just not capable of being read from or written to reliably.
