TV tuner card on B&W

Hi all

I installed a TV tuner PCI card into my B&W G3 Mac and it was from a 8500 Mac. It won't launch correctly in my G3. Can someone direct me to a freeware TV tuner app that will work in a B&W G3 tower? Thanks, web dude

Uh, it really would help a lot to know more about the make and model of the card and your computers! There may be drivers for it on the manufacturer's website and that's the first place you should look for support. Under what operating system is it running on the other computer? What OS are you running on your B&W? When you say "it won't launch correctly" that implies you are trying some software, if so, what program? Although I haven't worked with TVtuners before I suspect that there may be very specific software for each manufacturer since they aren't a common add-on to computers.

I did a web search for "Xmicro tv tuner mac" and didn't find any tv tuners specifically. I went to [X-micro's support web site|http://www.x-micro.com/main-support_supportform.php] and did not see tv tuners under the list of products. This leads me to suspect that they used to make them and don't anymore and may likely not have any OSX support for them; it depends upon when they stopped making them.

You can probably get the part number off the card itself and do a more directed search since I don't have that information. On rare occasions I have seen cards and such supported by third party software, but it is rare. Again, it would help to know what software you have on your computer that is running the card.

What program were you using on your old computer to use the card? Have you looked in the extensions and control panels folder for files that have "xmicro" or other wording that lead you to believe they may support the card? Your B&W with Tiger can run Classic and could even boot into OS9 natively if you have OS9 and included the OS9 drivers when you formatted the hard drive. You could transfer the program and drivers to the B&W and possibly continue to use it in there. Note that sometimes Classic is not good enough in running old software or devices, and it really has to be OS9.

If you are talking about the ixMicro ixTV card then you are essentially out of luck. I had one from my OS 9 days, but had to abandon it when I failed to get it working with OS X. I don't think it is possible to get it working.

I believe there were several projects that supposedly got it to work under OS X but they never worked for me. Plus, they are long out of date now.
