External Monitor keeps entering "power save"

I just bought the new late '08 MBP and have it connected to an external monitor (Dell 24") using the mini DVI to VGA adapter. I used the same monitor with my earlier model MBP, with no problems. But with the new '08 MBP, the monitor constantly goes into sleep mode and I have to shake the mouse or hit the command key to wake it up.

It could possibly be because I am using Mini DVI to VGA, rather than the DVI connector.

Any suggestions how to fix?

Hi guys,
I'm getting similar problems with my Macbook Pro 15" unibody. I have both mini display port to VGA and to DVI. I've plugged up to both a Dell 20" and 24" monitor, and after a while

I have switched to the nvidia 9600 graphics chip and currently using vga, it hasn't happened (not tried dvi yet).

It must be a fault with the 9400 graphics chip, which is a concern because a friend of mine wants to buy a macbook white and to hook it up to a monitor. Macbook White's only have the 9400 chip...

Any advice on what to do?
